PACKAGING of New Toys is just WRONG!!!

Ok, every year I vent about this, but, the way they package new toys is just wrong. You have to either be an engineer or demolition specialist to get to the actual toy. My conspiracy is toy companies "think" that with this type of packaging, parents won't take back the toys. WRONG!!!! We destroy the package and still take it back. HA! That's what they get.

    Ok, venting over.

    Merry Christmas.

I am not a fan of modern toy packaging for the most part. The art and style is so lame. Nothing beats the packaging from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Packaging artwork and layout aside the main reason many plastic sealed toys are so hard to get out of the package is theft deterrent. Companies lose millions each year due to in store theft so they spend a little more in harder to open packaging to try and cut into the losses from theft. I will admit that I don't understand why the larger toys are also packaged this way since their size itself should be a deterrent.

Gone are the days when you could gently remove a toy from it's box and display or examine it, and still be able to return it to it's packaging.

When was the last time I can remember being able to do this? Larger Toy Biz Superhero stuff from the nineties?

I agree, it took me ages to get a Thomas Tank Engine set out of the box for my two year old nephew on Christmas Day. It's crazy.

My wife and I usually go through the kid's gifts and assemble them/release them from their plastic cells before we wrap them. Saves on whine time

Two essential tools that every toy collector should have are: A box cutter and a pair of large toenail clippers. You'd be surprised how quickly you can get through all that tape and wires and stuff with just these two items.

The box cutter for cutting the outside tape and the Toenail clippers will cut through those twisty wires in seconds.

Bigger gripe I've got... Yes the packaging is a pain but what you get out is so inferior to the plastic pieces that captured our attention. Seriously I think they have put so much thought and money in theft deterrents that the actual toy's quality has suffered.
