Removing a blister from the card

Is there a trick to this or is it pull and pray?

I need a card back for a project I'm working on and would like to have it as mint as possible. Is there a technique or maybe a substance to use to make it easier?

If you're very handy with a samurai sword, you can slice it off with one swift stroke.
If you're not, this could result in your untimely death.

Seriously. Getting card and blister apart without damage to the card is very hard. You might just cut off the bubble, leaving the glued-on flat part attached to the card. Otherwise you definitely damage the cardboard and artwork printed on it.

I have never found a way to detach a heat sealed blister from a card without some degree of tearing - which is good considering how much "swapping" occured in taped together SW packages the last few years

I never tried this but I heard throwing in the freezer for a day will make it come off a lot easier.

I can't guarentee it though ... also, it might hurt whatever figure is sealed on the card.

In the immortal words of Dr. Tongue from "Dr. Tongue's 3-D house of Stewardesses":
"Rip and tear Bruno..rip and tear!"

Of course this skit also gave us the other immortal line "Must have been the chili!"
              "Crayons taste like purple!"

I've always been a big believer that if your going to damage the packaging, you should do it in the least noticable area. In this case, I have always cut a flap at the bottom of the blister (like I do with the current 12 inch movie Joes and the DC Universe figures). Take an exacto knife or box cutter and slice a straight line on each side from the bottom up, but not all the way to the edge (Just enough to make clearance for your figure). Cut across at the bottom and bend back. Boom. Your figure slides out and the flap springs back in place with no damage to the card. When your ready to put him back just pull the flap back, slide him in, and the flap goes back into place still holding the figure. I prefer that over damaging the card itself.

I think ra was trying to save the card to use as a base for a custom carded figure, not reuse for the figure that came out of it.

The only thing I have seen that works well for removing blisters is time. If you leave the figures for twenty years in a high humidity spot that also has a big temperature swing. (i.e. really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter), that can cause to glue to lose its grip. If you try to duplicate that, it might help. Although quick heat can warp the plastic if you want to save the bubble.
