I've been there too. I took a ton of photos in the musuem. I think the hair pieces freaked me out the most... Here's a shot of Zod's costume. I don't remember it being maroon (lighting in this shot is not definitive) but if it was, it would have been because it faded from the extreme heat the owners allowed in on that day. It must have been 100 degrees in there and they acted like it was no big deal when I inquired about the effect that might have on some of their items. I have shots of their Mego Supergals MOC all faded that also look damaged from that environment. Tragic how much, if not all, of the Superman props are so ill-kept. Of course when you consider their version of 'Metroplis' was more like Hazzard county, I guess no one should be too surprised, right?

Here are the Mego Supergals. You can see all of the color faded from the cards. In those conditions it was easy to see why they looked so bad.

I find it hard to believe that if you are a Fan of Superman and or this Movie, that this figure Would be disapointing..., even at 60 bucks. I thought the Pics of it Looked Fantastic.

So on the side of Zod's box, there's a small portion of the "S" from the "Superman" logo....I'm assuming that each succesive release will contain more of the logo so when you place them all next to each other it spells out the entire logo. Now we know Superman himself is the next release. Because of the small sliver that is on Zod's box, I'm betting there will be a line of at least six figures...Zod, Superman, Ursa, Non, Luthor and Lois. I don't think there'd be just 4, given how little of the "S" is shown.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

Superman 2 will ALWAYS be my favorite movie of all time. I know every word, every second from watching it 1,000 times.

But the Zod figure IS disapointing to me because:
          (1) $60 for a toy is a bit much.
          (2) He looks way too skinny.
          (3) I personally hate the red tinge on his costume.

I have a 12" mego Zod (MIB) that proudly sits on my shelf, so I really don't need to spend loads of money for an updated version. Besides, sixty bucks could buy me almost three Mattel figures.

I rewatched parts of Superman II over the weekend, and I must say if the maroon/red is there, it's VERY sublte.

But I still like my figure!

Metropolis is even laid out a bit like Hazzard, but I still like the town. And it's much nicer there now than it was 20 years ago, let me tell you! Before the museum and the real statue, it was quite a disappointment.

I drove there a couple of years back for their annual convention. They had Supergirl (from the movie) and a few other guests there. It was a nice little town, but the convention aspect of it was disjointed to say the least. They had one guest signing autographs at the rear of a BANK while the bank was OPEN. That was weird. And then the fleamarket aspect of the vendor booths lined up near the museum had little or nothing to do with the theme. It seemed like they were trying to promote the town itself rather than the celebration of Superman specifically, so the message was a little off. When you saw the online promotion you got a different feel for what it actually was. I think they would be better served to rent out space at one of the large hotels nearby and have the actual convention there and promote the town and the museum as an extention of that celebration. Having things spread out all over the place didn't make it feel as cohesive as I'm sure was the intent. Had it not been for the museum, I would have felt like I wasted my time. That is the Holy Grail of anyone who is a Superman diehard. Every imaginable prop is in there from all of the movies, and television shows dating back to the very beginning. It's just unbelievably sad how poorly kept it all is... Or at least at that point in time. Hopefully they have made significant improvements since.

When I saw the Zod costume in 2001 or so it wasnt even in a case. yes i worried about items disintergrating in there too.

I think the last time I was there was 2006 or so. There were lots of props not encased, which does seem odd. We arrived on the Friday before the celebration began. Noel Neil came in to the museum behind us. I recognized her, and pointed her out to my wife, but decided not to bother her, and let her enjoy herself. She did comment on how cute my son was!

I think they keep the attractions spread throughout the town to promote the town itself. Taking it to one of the hotels on the outskirts would pull it away from the downtown businesses. I think the local chamber of commerce is the main sponsor of the event, so it makes sense. It is much more "rural" than the website indicates, though.

Well, the ridiculous disco costumes don't help any, but this is NOT a $60 action figure. The boots translated very poorly, and even with a goofy outfit, it didn't have to fit that poorly. But at least he can cross his arms...

I repainted his lips on mine and gave him thicker eyebrows like the prototype,..to make him more accurate to the actor. later on ,..i plan to darken the re/maroon vinyl with a gray sharpey marker,..to give it a dark reddish hue to match the one in the movie,....im a big fan of the first two movies!!!
(Got this figure thanks to the best friend in the world,..who got it for me through Matty as I couldnt!! ....you know who you are "Robin").

Just saw this over at the Superman Homepage and had to post:

                          Superman Homepage - News

Clearly, Mattel's figure is not nearly off as some think.

I was also flipping through my old Superman movie tabloid magazines from DC, and in some pics, you can clearly make out the red (and in some it seems quite red), and in others, the piping and boots looks like a gray/black, in both publicity shots, and photos taken during filming. And this is on all 3 villains. I'm starting to wonder if Zod and company's costumes didn't get a makeover at some point, changing to the all-black look. I need to go back and rewatch both movies and see how much the red shows up.

                          But it IS there.
