In person the General Zod outfit does have a red trim. Its like a dark maroon vinyl with a black pantyhose effect over it. Thats why it usually looks black. It just didnt show up on screen very well.

I've been to the Superman Museum several times, and that may be where I got that the suit has a maroon color. There is SO MUCH stuff crammed into that place it's easy to forget all I saw there!
If Zod looks anything like the Attention to detail that the 12inch GhostBuster's have..., he will be well worth the 60 bucks, and everyone should be pleased.

Whats funny is I had a conversation with the owner. I was trying to sweet talk him into letting me see "Supermans Guide to the Bible" or an original kids cape with " This is only pretend Remember only the REAL SUperman can fly" and we got to discussing a lot. He was telling me the history of the statue. ( the original was pretty ugly and fiberglass, It's funny what happened to it , wanna know?)
If you havent seen it theres a big bronze Superman statue there with a dedication plaque. He said "remeber we live in the vicinity of a dozen churches so we had to be really careful what we wrote on the dedication plaque because of the whole False Idols church thing."
He said it was kind of funny watching people come there and do wax rubbings ( a piece of paper over the sign and a crayon) . He kinda giggled that it was silly. I was confused. Then he half muttered. " I guess I understand, if I was at Jimmy Hendrixs' grave I would do the same"
Then it hit me Being the Worlds Biggest Superman Collector was his JOB!! His "hobby" was guitar !!!!
Other than Zods costume I think my favorite thing was George Reeves Clark Kent glasses. It was almost ten years ago. It's not so far away I should go back.
By the way the town is so small the paper IS named after The Planet but at the time it was called the Weekly Planet. No buildings over two stories either.
No I didnt get to see the kiddie cape or Bible book.
I knew the Zod costume in the movie was actually red and that it did not show up well on film. I was surprised when I saw the images of the new Mattel Zod and saw that they were trying to use the same style material as the actual costume. I for one like their attempt to match the original. I have to give it to Mattel. I for one think they are trying hard.

I remember when the ugly statue was there! Somehow, I heard about Metropolis when I was in high school, and I talked my parents into a road trip that included a stop in "The Hometown of Superman". I even dragged my wife-to-be along for the ride. Man, was I disappointed to see the "statue" of Superman in the town square. You can see the disdain in the pics of me standing by it, that my Mom forced me to take.
The current statue REALLY makes up for it. Has a real Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Super Powers-era vibe to it.
Wow, the final product DOES look better than the proto! The red has been toned down a lot. Maybe it's still a little too red, but it's an interpretation choice, not a gross error like it seemed at first. Great packaging, especially using the Superman movie "S" symbol and the 3-D font from the opening credits. I love it! Can't wait for Wednesday!
They added more pics of the package at different angles since I posted this last night, and AFI will have loose pics and accessory shots soon.
I'm really glad that I ordered this! The red isn't as bad as it looked in the prototype pics, and the packaging really makes up for it... love the Oval Office motif and the pic on the side of the people running away. Can't wait for their Reeve...
I know the first order of business the good General will have to attend to when arriving on Festivus is to finally make that Mattel Brandon Routh Superman KNEEL!

The Superman Museum owner told me the old one was fiberglass and the local "yokels" used to . . yes shoot it like an old sign by a gravel road.
He said it wasnt on a stand or up high and being in the middle of the road some old lady drove her car right through it .
You HAVE to post a pic of unhappy you and the statue!
I wonder how metroplis is now, they had just gotten a gambling boat.
I hope the figure Zod is the opposite of the movie zod in that in real life the red gets toned down. His face is too smooth. An expression would be nice.
Mr. Crawford was not a big fan acording to his review of Zod.
Sounds like a lot of that stems from his dislike of the movie costume.

I'll have to scan the old Polaroids in soon and post them.
I think the gambling boat went in long ago, and that's one way they got the money to upgrade the statue, but I could be wrong. There is a statue of Noel Neil as Lois in the works.
