Diamond Select Toys reportedly shuttered

Not sure if there's another thread on this somewhere, but as many know Diamond Distributors was recently sold. That's a whole story unto itself and there was a fair amount of funny business involved, but supposedly when the sale was complete things were going to continue on as normal. Diamond of course also owned Diamond Select Toys, who released the EMCE figures and in a lot of ways brought "Mego" back to the forefront with some of their distribution of EMCE products in the early part of the century. They have released tons of cool toys throughout the years, including the long running Minimates and Marvel Select, as well as Muppets, Rocketeer, Black Hole, etc.

Anyway, the very moment the new company took over, they essentially fired everyone from DST as well as Gentle Giant. Nothing has been made official, but the rumor is that they may just get rid of the whole thing. Nothing is concrete at the moment. Except that they fired everyone. There are a bunch of products on pre-order and you can still pre-order them but it's not clear if they will be produced or not.

Interesting to note that the company that bought Diamond also owns Neca. So maybe a small sliver of hope that some of their full time employees get pick up by them.

Very unfortunate news for those impacted. Having seen this news, as well as news of the Super7 layoffs last week, on top of at least a couple of rounds of layoffs at Hasbro a couple/few years ago, my concern from the outside is whether there is a robust job market in America in 2025 for action figure designers and related professionals.

As a customer, I can also say that I have bought a few Diamond Select Marvel Select figures and thought those I bought were/are great. Diamond Select made my personal favorite Juggernaut and 'classic' Colossus figures, and the Classic Captain America from last year was particularly excellent, I thought.

Juggernaut,Colossus,Silver Centurion Iron Man, Titanium Man, Crimson Dynamo and their recent-ish Hulk were all awesome releases and imo, perfect versions of those characters in figure form. They were on a roll the last few years with the Marvel stuff.
