Loyal Subjects to bring back iconic Hasbro toys MASK, JEM and ROM.

Also Popples, My Buddy and My Pet Monster. The Jem doll looks really good. Great to see these iconic brands comeback even if it is a little sad Hasbro now considers themselves an entertainment company and not a toy one. Sounds like Loyal Subjects will make these retro lines like their fantastic Strawberry Shortcake dolls. The Jem proto looks really nice.

The Loyal Subjects signs deal with Hasbro to bring back legacy brands including M.A.S.K, Jem, My Pet Monster, R.O.M. Figures (toynewsi.com)

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Super stoked by this, especially the M.A.S.K. announcement. Cindy is collecting their Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite dolls, and I agree, they are really well-done. Coming from them, it may also mean this will all be fairly affordable too, and not retail at nose-bleed boutique prices.

Didn’t notice ROM was mentioned earlier when I first saw the article was too focused on MASK. Cool. And isn’t NYTF next month?

Woo-hoo! Always wanted ROM. Eager to see how faithful they are to the original design.

Now if someone would kindly put a bug in their ear about a repro Star Bird...

Agreed, I imagine they will stick with their toy pricing, like with Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcake, and aim these at the mass market and won't try to gouge us with inflated collector prices. Sad to say these properties will receive better care under a smaller company like LS than Hasbro would have done. Hasbro has been sitting on way too many iconic properties because they just didn't think it was worth their while. MASK and Jem are especially long overdue.

Marvel licensed the rights to reprint the old Rom comics and to use Rom on select cover images, not to produce any new comics, and that's only for print, as they have not added any of the Rom material to their Unlimited service (which only offers Disney owned materials, so Star Wars yes, but not the Conan material when they had the rights to Conan, and Rom/Micronauts are that type of deal, not one of ownership). So Marvel has absolutely no say on the toy rights to Rom. They can only reprint the old comics (and do a few variant covers)..

I believe Marvel does own the Dire Wraiths and some of the charcaters that appeared in the comic, right?

I'm not clear on that. Dire Wraiths were present in the pitch Parker Brothers sent to Marvel, so they were not created by Marvel. They made extensive use of them elsewhere in the MU while Rom was being published, and the visual design on them was Marvel, but the concept of them came from Parker Brothers not Marvel, so they are not created by Marvel, so Marvel doesn't automatically have the rights to them. It all comes down to the contract language of their deal, or other rights deals they made after the initial deal was struck, which I am not privy to the details of. I do believe Marvel has the rights to continue to use them, but I am not sure how that came about since they didn't create them.

I dunno man...this company had the rights to some really great properties and ended up ****ting the bed on a lot of them...

Just...weird choices...and bad quality control.... I'll admit, they HAVE gotten better...but I'm gonna have to wait and see.
