    All New Star Trek figures

I find it hard enough to believe Playmates is still forging ahead with new figures based off the last movie, but along with more new movie based toys, they also revealed 3 3/4" figures based on the original tv series at this weeks Dallas pre-Toy Fair (which means no pictures unless somebody snuck some out!?)!!!

Does this mean Diamond will lose their license for TOS Trek?

Will the Classic Trek figures look better than the almost comical movie line?

I think the Playmates TOS license is limited to that certain size (3 3/4).. Diamond still has the license for the other larger sizes.

I'm wondering if the two packs they mention in the release will incorporate recycled items or backgrounds form their original line.

There's still a lot of the first releases clogging the pegs here.

To be honest, I think any Star Trek action figure line will fail miserably.

Just look on ebay, people can't give them away ... even the Art Asylums which usued to sell for some money are now just internet peg-warmers.

Playmates must not be very smart ...

            EMCE is a different story.
These "retro" figures are marketed to a specific audience with good results.

            3/4" classic Treks ?
            Nahhhh,
            Playmates must have a death-wish

They were very ugly figures. At one point my Walmart had them for 3 bucks each and to me that was still too much. Also I wanted Kirk, Spock, and McKoy but McKoy only came in his cadet uniform which I wasn't interested in. Also in Canada they didn't come with parts to make the bridge playset but yet you could still buy the empty bridge for like 25 dollars. It was a huge failure. Epic Fail if you will.

I found this website with info-no pics. Based on how bad the New Trek 3.75 figures look I don't know how they got the liscence unless they are shrinking the heads from their old 5" line:

Playmates Toys Expanding Star Trek Line To Original Series + More Movie Toys For 2010 | TrekMovie.com

                TOS 3.75" figures
Possibly most interesting is the 3.75" Galaxy Line of action figures based on the original 1960s Star Trek television show. These will be detailed figures with more than 16 points of articulation sold in diorama scene two packs based on famous episodes. Star Wars fans who buy "battle packs" have an idea of how cool these should be.
TrekMovie will provide images and more details as they are available.
UPDATE NOTE: While Playmates has added 3 3/4″ Original Series figures to their line-up, Diamond Select Toys continues to hold the license for the Original Series figures they offer (7″, 18″ & Mini-mates). DST does not make figures in the 4 3/4″ size.

I love the 3 3/4" scale to pieces and on paper this is a good idea, too bad Playmates is doing it. When your movie figures are outclassed by the ones Mego put out 30 years ago, there is a problem.

I know we all thought the figures were crap but my 8 year old loves them and plays with them all the time. I got him a bunch at clearance in both the 3.75 scale and the 6 inch scale for Christmas

the movie was a complete flop here and we now have around 60-70 in sets of 10 moc trek figures stuck in the stock room

gonna use them to chock open doors and to put cups of tea on

                      waste of money and space
ill have a january sale or keep them for 25-30 years see if i can make my money back

In one of those strange dreams that never come true I thought Wow now that Playmates has the licence wouldnt it be nice if they did just a FEW figures to round out the series from the 1990s? A 9 inch Gorn. A small Kahn from the series. SOme of the DS9 characters like the One Flew over the Coocoos nest lady or Jeffery Combs ( hey the nerd portion of my memory is almost full)

I really didn't like the figure designs and it's sad that the 90s playmate figures are better in quality. i'm glad to hear that Diamond still has the rights for the larger figures. I liked the movies overall but I hated the Enterprise's engine nacelle design.

Playmates pulled the plug on the line....or rather, the retailers pulled it for them. They do still hold the rights for the sequel, but wave 2 and 3, and the TOS figures are shelved. I know the folks who are the Canadian distributor, and they still say the bridge sets will be released, so people can complete the bridge and transporter playsets....but I kinda doubt we will even see those.
