Blood of Dracula, Maureen Robinson, Barb (NOTLD) review

We don't get a lot of women in the action figure world...and I'm not just talking about the living, breathing kind. So it's a bit of a surprise to get not one but three female action figures, all sixth scale and all released about the same time! I'm looking at a trio of ladies tonight from Amoktime and Executive Replicas - Maureen Robinson from Lost in Space, the vampire from Blood of Dracula, and Barbra from Night of the Living Dead.

The head sculpts are decent...but sadly, there's one major issue and a number of minor ones across the board, and they are the kind of things we should not be seeing at $70 a pop.

I also have a guest review from Jeff Parker, who is checking out Josh Randall from the Wanted: Dead or Alive show. You may remember I checked him out a couple weeks ago, and now Jeff is giving it his own particular spin. You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Michael Crawford's Review of the Week - the number one source for action figure, toy and pop culture reviews!

And just a reminder - you can follow me on Twitter and get these same updates, along with other banal items, like the fact that I went to a midnight show of Paranormal Activity this weekend, and the flick kicks much ***. You can find me on twitter at http://twitter.com/michaelcrawford

    Thanks for reading!

You know I'm hearing about this type of breakage and shortcuts in craftsmanship more frequently with the pricey figures and I have to tell you -at $70.00 for a STARTING price - this is complete BS. I think a number of these companies are beginning to believe the consumer is past the shock value of a big ticket figure, so now they are trying to cut into the cost of making it to profit even further. They best be careful, because if this becomes too common place, they will lose significant market share in an increasingly competitive industry. I have a number of Hot Toys, Amok, and DC Direct figures. I have been fortunate not to be touched with this misfortune. But should it happen, I might quickly reassess the value of future purchases. Thanks for the review Michael. Your website is an invaluable tool for collectors such as myself. Keep up the great work!!

I completely agree. For that kind of price, they really need better QC.

I gotta admit though, the vampire chick looks like Eddie Munster in drag. lol

I think it's because they also use stock bodies, so they get a little lax, assuming that the last time they used the same bodies, there were no problems - why now? They focus on the new parts, ignoring that the manufacturing of these bodies can still introduce problems that weren't there before.

Funny thing is, I mentioned a few reviews ago that Hot Toys should just start including extra wrist pegs...and my Marcus Wright (whose review is going up tomorrow night) has two extras included

I have seen it too with these High end figures just falling apart. The quality just seems to be lacking. Is it design flaws or just poor manufacturing ?
