the joeCon sets are very cool, but also pretty pricey. Usually around 300 bucks for non club members. Great stuff tho, especially for fans of the vintage Joe and AT. This year's model has a retool of a htf AT parachute and crate drop set originally made in 75 for Mike Powers. There are some cool tie ins to the modern line as well. Including the Palinesque Baroness 12" figure.
Maybe some of the more hardcore Joe fans will be in Kansas City this week and can let us know how it went.
They REALLY do a 1st class job (not a kitbash in sight!)
no kitbashes there per se. They are all official Hasbro releases and items. Many times they are combinations of vintage retools, such as the para-drop crate and chute this year, or a new look at a classic idea. Terror under the sea floor from the 07 con was a riff on the vintage Jaws of Death. The Sasquatch kit from 08 has a similar tribute to the AT line riffing on past Joe items. Hasbro retooled some of the pieces and put them together in a special limited edition package for the Joe Collectors club.
So, not really kitbashes, but there is some recycling going on. Hasbro has always been good at reusing and recycling. (ask any modern Star Wars collector)
I gotta couple of the 3&3/4 Inch Convention Exclusives..., Big time Bucks to get 1 ..., I look at a What I can Usally get from Hot Toys,.. for sometimes less than Half the Price of the ones that I want,.. & can't bring myself to take the plung anymore...
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Oh yes, I am quite aware of how they do things .. was not expressing surprise, only stating a fact (that I continue to be VERY impressed with) that I discovered a long time ago (have been an adventure team fan and a classic Joe booster for a LONG time, being a true 60's child).
They treat their collectors very well there as well!!

I keep thinking of how Hasbro deals with the fan groups at the Joe Collector site and the Star Wars fans at Rebelscum. There is a level of interaction with both of those consumer bases that is fantastic. Q&As for collectors along with fan-polled character releases and club exclusives like the above Joe sets. I hope that Matty Collector follows in the same vein with the WGSH and that the line is successful enough to warrant special attention to groups like the Mego Museum.
