Poll: Are you planning on seeing G.I. Joe this weekend
I'm a huge RAH Joe fan ... but this movie is going to be a pass for me, just doesn't have the right feel or look in the previews for me ... sure Snake Eyes is going to kick butt, but I'll wait and watch it on DVD or when it ends up on the internet
This is kind of hashing out the way I thought it would, it seems to be a combination of our age group and the movie's less than terrific press thus far.

Well, I liked all Joe stuff as a kid, AT, ARAH, it's all good. However I just get uncomfortable looking at the characters, Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow and the Baroness look great, but as for the super suits, reminds of of N.F.L. Superpro. No thanks Inglorious Basterds for me all the way. Rather see something with a little more heft to it. Plus, I just straight up have no interrest in seeing the movie.
As far as I'm concerned, Star Trek is the movie to beat in 2009.
I will see it on DVD. The fact that Paramount didn't preview this to critics says something. I dont agree with the critics but when a studio declines to preview the film, it's usually a bad sign. I think it will open big and then have a poor second weekend. Just my opinion.
How about a 'no, not interested in RAH joe' option
If it was RAH I would go see it sadly it's alot closer to Sigma Six (the modern joe's version of the SuperJoe failure) which is to say expect Mobisl suit Gundam Meets HALO .
I won't say I'll never see it since the redbox dvd rental is a buck but I expect this will be like Ang Lee's Hulks and Daredeveil I'll tape it off tv for free to skip commercials and still feel jipped
It's sad a year ago I was so stoked and planning my calender around seeing this now after the clips I am so apathetic about the film I just don't care - good think that puts serveral hindred bucks back into my budget for toys I won't buy for the line
Do you think the reason it's more like Sigma Six is due to the lag time between movie pre-production and actual release? A few years back, Hasbro was really pushing Sigma Six, and just releasing very few 3 3/4 stuff to TRU. Then the 25th anniversary came up, and they switched gears. Is this movie a victim of the ever-changing toy landscape?
After Seeing tons of footage of this on WWE during the Commercials This Past Mon,.. This to me, looks like it's going to be a great Action/Adventure Movie. The Boy & I are Stoked.
I saw a screening of it monday, with the rest of hasbro. I must admit that my expectations were pretty low, but it surpassed them. It has a some good moments, like anytime Baroness, Storm Shadow or Snake Eyes are on screen.
For whatever its worth, I enjoyed it much more than Transformers 2.

I'll wait for this to hit DVD, or even cable. Much as I like GI Joe, I'm not feeling it for this movie.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

I think so HASBRO was desperate to move awaty from the 3-4 inch format to capture the larger size market but SIGMA Six was horrid.
It was just another example of the marketing team believe the name was the driver in the brand not the history. The classic collection failed for the same reason it was trying to horn into the 12" size without embracing the 12" history. Joe's transiton from RAH to other styles has failed 3 times (Sgt Savage, Xtreme, and now sigma six)
I have not read any spoilers or back story on the film. My opinions are based solely on the previews that have been put with shows (like on sharkweek this week) and the released trailers (like the superbowl). I think Sigma six was influenced by gundam (the cartoon was even produced by an anime studio in anime style) and this film was influenced by Sigma six (which was in full swing when development began)
I was pleased at most of the castings as they were announced (I was always leary of a Wayans as a comedic actor in an action role). The intial press releases in costumes had be concerned (too much x men spandex for the joes) but I was still hopeful for a good story. then the superbowl trailer of Duke in the power suit exploding through the wall made me very afraid
the trailer last night of the undersea battle made me wonder where Qui gonn jinn and Jar jar were hiding.
I fear that GIJOE will be another example of a design team obessessing over what new and big effect they can put in rather than a good story.
