Long scene from the new G.I. Joe movie

    Topless Robot - G.I. Joe: A Real French-Dubbed Hero

It's in French but it's an action scene. Really mixed feelings on it, for everything they seem to get right, they get something so wrong. What's with Snake Eyes mask?

The pics of Dukes power suit have ruined any expectations for this movie.
Zombie? Vampire? Evil clown?!? Yes, please.

It's a mixed bag. The figures that are out have revealed some other characters that are in it that haven't shown up in the trailers. Some look pretty good, others look like they just took someone and slapped an old name on it. "Here. This guy is Zartan."

The power suits...did someone have Iron Man envy? I wonder if they were in the script BEFORE Iron Man came out and made a boat-load of money.

As I've said before, if they went more realistic with this, I can seem them dropping some of the sci-fi/fantasy trappings, but as it stands, they just swapped out familiar, brand-central out-there elements, for newer, just-as-out-there elements. I don't understand this thinking.

the Gi joe comics were made by Marvel, would'nt it be cool if they linked the Starks name to the suits?

That would do absolutely nothing for me. I really think this movie will smell.

I agree with Chris on this one. When you hear the name GI JOE and you see the movie, there is no brand recognition and that's odd to me (especially when your talking about toys). I don't necessarily think a movie is the time and place to be doing a makeover for a popular toy line. I think they should have followed the same format they did in Transformers. Obviously designing a machine requires less toying with the image, but then again GI Joe is about image too. I'm not sure where Hasbro is headed here. Some of the dialogue is pretty cheesy so my initial thinking is they weren't sure which target audience to go after. It looks to be mixed bag.

                Hmmmm....

I dunno.... It's tough for me to get excited about this 'cos the more I see the more it looks like everything else. I haven't seen the slo-mo bullet dodge yet; or something blowing up in a tunnel, but I bet they're there.

                >there is no brand recognition and that's odd to me

Yeah, but I'm betting they're doing the same thing a lot of remakes do: hedging their bets by making the current standard movie, but slapping the old name on in the hopes nobody will ultimately care/notice.

                >Some of the dialogue is pretty cheesy

Well.... it's typical action movie dialogue. (Is there REALLY any thematic point in referring to your troops as "ladies" when you have females on the team?)

                >would'nt it be cool if they linked the Starks name to the suits?

I'd actually find that kinda funny. Then I'd die a little inside as the whole world slipped one step closer to legitimized fanfiction....

....but I WOULD find it funny.

                >they just swapped out familiar, brand-central out-there elements, for newer, just-as-out-there elements. I don't understand this thinking.

Yeah! It's like they took the LAST few years of the figures.... y'know; when they fought aliens and everybody was a ninja.... and made a movie about THAT!

What bothers me is how much they've hedged their bet, it's really got a lot of old concepts in there. Joe has a rabid fan base, I think this movie is a victim of a committee.

Definitely, but I'm kinda used to that these days. I does look like they took a list of what the execs thought was currently hot, threw 'em into a mixer and made a script. Or the head producer only ever saw the cartoon.... the DIC cartoon.... and is going from that.

                      >Joe has a rabid fan base

So do most things, but I don't think they care. Look at how every other remake gets juggled around. It's like they want the names but have forgotten why 'cos they've been doing it so long.

And the sad thing is; it works! EVERY movie that comes out is the number one movie, for a week at least. (Although I'm bettin' that's not 'cos the formula works so much as most folks will go see anything anymore.... just to get out of the house.)

They do a slow-motion missile dodge in their exo-power suits. It's in the trailer. So there you go.

They clearly are going after the 13 and under crowd and hoping to sell the movie toys. My 13 year old is already sold. They made sure to throw two hotties for the Dads (Me) to keep us interested and hopefully Snake eyes (My Fav) will kick some butt.
Next friday whether I like it or not I'll be sitting in an air conditioned movie theater on a Hot August day with my son drinking my Pop and eating some popcorn Oh yeah Go Joe!!
