    Why I hate DC Direct.

In my never-ending efforts to bring my collectibles room back from the dead, I took the seemingly hundreds of 6" size (at least that's the size they are supposed to be) DC Direct figures down for a while and placed them in a large rubbermaid tote. Other than digging a few out for my son to play with, the tote went undisturbed for a month or more while I concentrated on other things. A few days ago I began to set these up again, and you would not believe the paint scuffs, broken parts, bent limbs and other "injuries" these things suffered being stored in a FRICKIN BOX. I moved the unmasked Barbara Gordon/Batgirl figure's left arm for the first time ever, and it snapped at the elbow. My Oracle figures' wheelchair lost both it's wheels. Commisoner Gordon's glasses split in two (must be some family defects!). And standing these things up...

I'm glad I gave up on actively buying these. I like the ones I have, but I swear once I get these set up, I'll never move them again.

I know these are aimed at collectors, and not intended to be played with by kids, but c'mon!!! They can't even take slight movement. The quality certainly isn't worth the dough I shelled out for years. I noticed the original Plastic Man's soft rubber goggles are starting to crack. So it begins...

    End of rant.

I only pick up DC Direct figures if I like the character and the sculpt, but I've never taken any out of the packages,I just hang the carded figure on the wall. My gripe is the inconsistency of both the sculpting and of the packaging. Bubble packs, round bubbles, square bubbles, boxed, plastic cases- pick a format and stay with it!
Also the constant parade of variations on the same characters when so many great characters go undone, teams like the Golden Age JSA unfinished...and then there are the tie-ins to whatever series they are hyping. Problem there is that the figures are solicited when the series hits, then released 6 months after it's over...which explains my local shop having pegs of 52 & Infinite Crisis figs they can't move.
And I vote that the Infinite Crisis sculpts were the worst they ever did, Elongated Man in particular.

I don't have any problem with mine....quite a few of the loose ones are perched precariously on boxed sets (liked a pyramid) and they rarely fall....no scratches either when they do.

But I don't like their selection process quite often either....as mentioned, many series are left unfinished and certain characters have never been made while others are on their fifteenth incarnation. As far as packaging, I liked when they released the Crime Syndicate with the re-sealable blister bubbles. I thought that would be the direction they'd continue in but didn't.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

I haven't had many problems with my DCD collection, but the ones that have broken have been from newer, artist-specific lines. It seems to me that their quality is a little hit or miss. You get the Green Lantern figures, that turned out very well, especially the very solid and heavy Kilowog. And then you have the ones that are based on Michael Turner's art, which all look "off," desite being based on gorgeous artwork. My First Appearance Robin's elbow fell off right after we got him. Fortunately I'm pretty good at first aid on toys and he looks fine now.

No problems with my DCD stuff... and they live in the garage without A/C to keep their capes and cowls dry.

Cleaning my garage this weekend I came across my "Justice League of Amputees" bag, why can't I throw these out?

I only buy Mattel stuff for my kids now.

Can the extra pieces be customized for Mego figures? Have you tried selling them to someone that casts parts?

And the Mattel ones just for the kids eh?
