New Star Trek movie Barbies and Kens

My wife showed me the new Barbie Uhura at our local Wal-Mart today. It was on the top shelf, so I reached up and got it down. Behind her was Kirk. This must have been Kirk after he was blasted by a Klingon disruptor. Shatner's rug would have never went all wild like this!!! I didn't even bother to get it down.

Uhura looked okay, but apparently that texture in their uniforms is millions of little Trek arrow/delta head symbols. They were all over this Barbie's dress. Like the Superman Returns costume. Because that worked so well. Ever since Spider-Man had that honey-comb patter in his uniform, everyone has to ape it.

Still looking forward to the movie, but I wish these frustrated costume designers would leave well enough alone.

Too many toys. Not enough space!

Unless the movie totally blows me away, to me there's no connection between these toys and the classic Star Trek show I love. These belong more alongside the Ken and Barbie ST dolls issued over ten years ago than with any Shatner/Nimoy ST figures. The best thing about them is, in fact, the uniforms. Customize some Playmates 12" ST figures and you can make your own damn prequel!

Uhura was okay, Kirk looked beyond hideous in person.

On the plus side, these likely annoy the hell out of Mike.

Not bad, but they remind me of those awful Tonner figures that are so mightily overrated. Really grand on some level, but missing the mark in so many ways.

Thanks, I'll stick to my old Barbie/Ken Star Trek set. Don't like the toys, won't see the movie.
