I don't know how I like these or not. I have been a die-hard TMNT fan and collector for over 2 decades. While I haven't compared them side by side, these new figures look virtually identical to the vintage toys. The cards are definately different. The new cards are wider and show a few characters above the bubble. The vintage early cards showed a drawing of the enclosed figure, so it was very easy to "check the pegs" for the desired figure.
I really didn't want the original figures to just be re-issued. I was hoping for updated version. I really liked the new 25th anniversary GI Joes, the NECA TMNT or even the new He-man figures. These seemed to be the same characters, just remade under today's toy making standards.
While I understand children of the 80's and 90's wanting their original TMNT lineup, I was hoping for modernized versions of the classic bad guys. Just my opinion. Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes!!

I went to target yesterday and didn't see these. While I love the Turtles and think this is great, aren't you just better off getting the vintage ones on ebay for just a couple more dollars?

That's a good point because the TMNT's Vintage line are not terribly expensive. I think the Exclusive the comic release and all red bands I will pickup though.

Wow, it's disturbing to think that line started over 20 years ago.I had the original 4 turtles at one point. Neat that they are out again, so long as they are clearly marked as reissues in some way.

They should be easily recognizable. The Originals had Squishy / rubbery heads. The Reissues in the early to mid 90's had harder plastic heads. I am willing to bet these will have harder plastic heads.

well only the 1st issues had the hard head, but that was only in 88-89,in 90 while they were still being released they started with the hard heads, then the re-issues with the different cards in like 95-96 all had hard heads

uh... how about just looking at the raised numbering that says "2009"?

I think you mean the 1st issue TMNT all had "soft heads" The only way to tell for sure if the carded figure is the "soft head" version, is if the Fan Club Flyer is included in the package. It's a small white paper placed in with the weapons pack. They were only made this way into '89. After that they all went to the hard plastic head. The 4 turtles, Splinter, Sredder, Bebop and Rocksteady all came with the soft head, but Ive only ever seen the turtles with the FCF. Some people say April was also issued this way, but who knows for sure.
