DC Direct Blackest Night Figures (SPOILER!)

    Pretty cool....

Included in this series are Earth-2 Superman, the first member of the lifeless, emotionless, Black Lanterns to be revealed; Boodikka, the veteran corpsman who was among the first to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps’ own policing unit, the Alpha Lanterns; Saint Walker, the first member of the Blue Lantern Corps, which champions hope in the universe; and Atrocitus, Abin Sur’s killer and the first to utilize the power of blood and rage to become a member of the Red Lantern Corps, which is out to destroy both the Sinestro and Green Lantern Corps!
Sooo.....the Earth-2 Superman (last seen in Infinite Crisis, and not to be confused with the Kingdom Come Supes who just appeared in JSA) is the first of the Black Lanterns? I already like where this is going!

I read elsewhere that the mystery figure is Bizzaro and the E2 Supes thing is a red herring.

Can't get behind all these tie-in figures DC Direct pumps out...so many classic characters not done, and they just put out version after version of the same guys. They just did E-2 Superman about a year ago, but just like the Mattel JLU, they have seem to have to include a Superman in every grouping with a slightly new paint job. Must be a DC law. Lately they've been turning out Green Lantern's all over the place in every DC toy line there is. I expect to see the same in the fall when the Flash is their big promotion. Yet other runs never get the figures- I would have been behind a Birds of Prey series with Oracle, Huntress, & Lady Blackhawk. Or a Seven Soldiers series with Bulletgirl & Frankenstein, or better yet the Golden Age team.
Instead we get endless Batman lines and event comics tie-ins- how many Scarecrows do we need? None of which seem to do well at the shops I've visited, the 52 characters and Superman/Batman characters are still hanging there, I've seen them clearanced to 5 bucks with no takers.

And I'll not get too excited about Earth-2 Superman until he's up and running as a member of the JSA again for awhile. They fooled me the first time back in Infinite Crisis- that last page reveal was a big OMG, only to see E-2 Supes & Lois killed off and Superboy go evil within a few issues. Then I really felt bad about seeing him come back, wish they'd left well enough alone.
Whenever I see a character appear again at DC after a long absence, I just know they will be brutally murdered shortly. Even if it's a minor hero or heroine- anybody see the gruesome death of Anima in last week's Prometheus book? Not that she was a big name bu any means, I can't even remember what her powers were...but they chopped her clean in half, then made a point of showing both grisly corpse pieces. Ugh, DC is just a haven of gore these days.

Yeah, I have to agree. I like John's stuff, but having my heroes come back as zombies with rings seems kind of wrong. I was super stoked about E2 Superman's return in IC, but bummed about his pummeling to death. And as much as I like Johns, he is pretty bad about writing brutal deaths into his comics. Wasn't aware of Anima's death, but it doesn't surprise me. Characters get their arms ripped off and heads splattered into pulp on a monthly basis now. It's sad.

And I stopped keeping up the 6" DCD figures partly because of your reason above. Who knew when they finally got the rights to Superman and Batman that they'd just abandon the more obscure characters they'd been making?
