I refuse to spend ANY money on any of this supposed "Spirit" product or the movie...
I don't understand the attitude toward this movie and the product. I think the figure looks pretty sweet. I won't buy it, but only because the DC direct figures are a little pricey for my limited budget.
Is there something I should know before I plunk down the cash to see the movie?
The movie doesn't have any of the Spirit's "Spirit", basically Miller has taken the character and reinvented into a clone of a Sin City. Everything from it's look to it's dialogue reeks of Miller, not Will Eisner.
You expect that sort of thing from a movie director but from a comic creator? That's "crotch punch" material.

Because, IMO, Miller is turning into a hack...for someone who's original run on "Daredevil" was supposedly inspired by Will Eisner's "Spirit" (never really saw the connection personally) you'd think that Miller would be more faithful to the source material. Granted, the Spirit was only an 8-pager and now you have to transform it into a feature length 2-hour film but it can be done.
On of the elements I TOTALLY disagree with is the casting of Samuel L. Jackson as the Octopus. Anyone who has read the Spirit knows that the mystique of the Octopus is that he's NEVER seen, always operating through his lackeys from the shadows. Jackson's Octopus is SO flamboyant, SO over-the-top....nothing like the Octopus from Eisner's strip.
Yeah there'll be a lot of hot chicks in the flick but that alone ain't gettin' me to plunk down my cash for this abomination.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!
Man, what a bunch of fanboys judging a book by its cover. Wait till it comes out before ya gripe.
Oh I'm aware of that irony but honestly, this isn't because the costume is black or Jackson is the Octopus. Miller has pretty much said it has nothing to do with Eisner and it's his reworking of the character.
Will it work? Probably, most people don't know the Spirit but they liked Sin City so they'll go see it and think that's the Spirit.
I don't like Frank Miller and I love the Spirit so I'd have snowballs chance of not feeling cheated coming out of that theatre.
