The guys behind CA these days seem to have zero idea what to do with the property. Nice enough folks but perpetually clueless as to what CA could be. Projects come and go and a bunch of stuff goes nowhere in between.
I saw this at Toy Fair; it's gorgeous, but I think the good Captain is a tougher sell these days. They had plans for Universal Monsters and Six Million Dollar Man, which I really want to see.

As much as I love Captain Action (and am proud to have contributed to the Castaway version via packaging art and design), I think the core concept of "dressing up" a figure as a popular character was really only viable in the earliest days of action figures. Nowadays both kids and collectors WANT the character, not an actor masquarding as them. As a special effects artist, Maxx FX had probably the best reason to exist using the CA model, but that was 35 years ago, and we'll never know how it would have went over since Freddy Kruger backlash killed it.
There are so many action figure options out there for collectors, getting people excited about an "Actor Doll" is probably harder than ever.
Yeah, the superhero cosplay thing just doesn't work anymore. I think the only way CA can work now is as a spy/adventurer like AT GI JOE with different mission accessory packs like artic, deep sea, space, etc. CA vs the mummy or yeti works a lot better than him cosplaying as another hero.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
