    Kenner Alien Help!!!

After a year of hunting, I just picked-up an original 1979 Kenner Alien. I paid $125. (Was that a good price?) It has dome, all 5 spikes, and the jaws still work fine. The only problem is that the arms are extremely loose-- almost hanging from the sockets. Is this easy to repair or should I leave it alone? Has anyone here ever done this repair? What do I use; I don't think a rubberband will work. Thanks for any help.

      Hiya Manspider,

Kudos on getting the big guy.

There are a couple of things to try with the Alien, but I need to know what the condition of the elastic is first. Fortunately, he is not too difficult to take apart if you are careful. Five screws on the backside. Once off, you can adjust the breathing tubes, replace/repair the #5spine, and repair the elastic. Sometimes, a reroute above the center screwpost will do it to tighten the arms up a bit. Also, the joints of the arms are round balls and are held in place by some plastic 'spikes' inside the body. This wears after many years of play. It sometimes helps to 'pad' up the spikes with a tiny dab of hot glue or some other kind of contact rubber.

Hope it helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

        Hiya pc,

The hard plastic wears away and does not provide the support for the arms. Hot glue will not actually adhere to the plastic on the Alien, but will sort of coat the arm support like plastidip. If you decide against it, it rolls right off. It is inside the joint and not visible. One could probably use PlastiDip as well, tho I don't know how easy it would be to remove if you don't like it.

Considering the plethora of crazy stunts in the repair and custom forum, I am surprised a little hot glue would rattle your constitution PC. I will try to be less shocking in my future posts, or leave a "PC don't look" disclaimer.

            Hiya folks.

BTW: if you are into the classic Alien, Hot Toys has finally made the Original big chappie with their awesome body underneath. You can pick one up stateside from Sideshow Toys, or I am sure they will be on the bay in the early part of next year.
