    Jigglers/ Rubber monsters anybody?

Is anybody here a fan of or did you collect Jigglers, rubber monsters? Like the rubber ben cooper line?

I collected tons as a kid and passed many on to my 6 year old son. He loves those toys.

I cant post pics right now, but we have many in our household dating as far back as the early 1970's.

The only place I ever seen them sold (back in the 70's) was my local drugstore.

They had a giant 55 gallon drum filled with them.

    Mostly Wolfman's and Dracula's

I have a ton of them mainly from when I was young in the 70's and still actively collect them on ebay when I can find/afford them. I am kind of picky as to what I go after, but I loved the rubber monsters (as I used to call them).

Years back I started making a photo disc with the ones I had and any info I had about them. You figure at this point someone would have made a site dedicated to them. No such luck. I see them on ebay in usually two types of categories

      1. the popular jiggler type going from the 50's to 70's. This includes the tortured souls, spacemen and the other ones that usually have a name and before my time (though I do have a display box full of this type) but were full on monster/alien style. The quarter/dime machines also fall into this category, though many were still around in the late 70's

      2. The not as popular but go for insane prices on ebay 1970's mostly from Imperial type. This mainly includes dinosaurs and other weird animals that were cranked out around this time in that 70's flare.

I had a few as a kid, my AHI Galen jiggler had to fill in for the Mego one. I've yet to take the plunge on them as an adult but seriously, it's going to happen.

I'd love to see your collection.

I would go as far to say that the "rubber monsters" are one of my all time favorite toys and ones that I still collect on a somewhat regular basis. I loved Sci-fi and Godzilla as well as Nature run amok horror films. Seeing these back on WOR tv or WPIX channel 11 still holds a soft spot in my heart. In turn the rubber monsters of this time filled my need to re-create some of these films in my backyard or room.

I still say this when I see current Rubber monsters on the store shelves today when comparing them to the older ones of the 70's and early 80's:

"They just do not make them like they used to"

Nowadays a good 95% of them are super politically correct looking Smithsonian Institute models. I liked it better when the dinosaurs looked more like monsters and something I would see on Land of the Lost. I loved it when virtually anything released still kind of had that menacing look that you would either see ripping Tokyo apart or something to terrorize the Mobile action commandos or the 3/4 star wars figures. That is the time I love, where nothing was made politically correct and everything was just some crazy *******ization design of what it was supposed to represent. I have an imperial Kangeroo that looks ticked off. That just do not make things like this anymore.

A website of some kind really needs to get started. If I had webskills I would do it myself.

I can easily upload some pics from the much older photo disc I was making (and stopped) or take a pic of some older type I have sitting on one of my shelves now. Give me a day or two to get something up.

          TOYSRUS,
I would love to see some of the stuff you have as well. Please upload a pic or two when you have some time

Something about those just screams Halloween to me. That and Ben Franklin's which seemed to buy them by the gross (no pun intended). In the last few years, they seem to have made a comeback around Halloween-time. Wal-mart had generic monsters, and Walgreens had licensed Universal Monster ones.

I'd love to see your collection too!

Geez, this takes me back. I used to have a Spider-Man, Batman, and a couple of monster jigglers (all by Ben Cooper - the company that made Halloween costumes when I was but a mere lad). First casualty of those figures was always the string - dang thing used to break within a week of getting the toy.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

                jigglers

whats up again? Yeah i'll dig out my jigglers, even though my son now plays with like 80% of them. My favorites were the spooky kooky guys, i have an original set or two plus the re-makes.

Remember the POTA jigglers? They made 3 huh? My dog chewed my soldier jiggler badly.

They made some dc & marvel guys, but i'm surprised they didnt make more.

The rubber toys they make now pretty much suck. But i always buy a set anyway.

Cant wait to see your photos.

When I was a kid my "mego" Thing was played by the Ben Cooper jiggler.  For some reason I couldn't find the thing mego as a kid, so I had to settle for the jiggler.  He was cool though. Bend his arm down and it would spring back like "clobberin time" I have to pick up another one of them.

ok here is a rather long picture for your consumption.

The first one has the Ben Cooper Godzilla, various king kong types and the Ben Cooper Tyranosaurus on the back left. The tyran had a horn on his head, but otherwise than that and a paint job, he is identical to the Godzilla. I love the Beetle in the front and have searched years for another one. The display box had them in giant size attacking a small villiage. They had various ones with different paint jobs on the shell. No date (made in HK) or year, but I traded a friend for that one and he got it roughly when they appeared which was at the very end of the 70's to early 80's

The next two pictures are of a popular shark made by Imperial. The original version was made roughly around the same year as Jaws and colored the traditional shark white/blue (this was recently on Ebay and went for $50-60). This later version was made in 1978, 14" long. I loved the see through type of rubber (blue) used as well. You get the cool effect when holding it up to a light.

The next two pics are of a triceratops that was also popular (at least in my area, everyone seemed to have this one). Cool stance and perfect in scale to fight some of the smaller godzilla toys or pretend he was the Rhino from the Herculoids cartoon. Imperial 1978, about 4-5" long. It should also be noted that this one has some very nice body detail which you did not see that often

and finally ticked off Kangeroo (imperial 1973) with a message for you

Cool, I had a shark like that and that exact same triceratops too (along with a matching Stegasaurus and Tyranasaurus Rex - I know I mangled the spelling on those names!). They were great to play with. BTW, I also see a "Space" Gyaos gashapon lurking in that first pic too.

I sadly never had any monster or POTA "jigglers", but I did have a Superman, Batman and Spider-man.

                          Count Creepyhead,
Nice pic! I used to have the Frankenstein years ago (I recall having a few of these over different times). I think I cut him up into pieces for whatever reason. The Kong on the right (I have two of them) I came across twice in my lifetime. The first was at a carnival in the mid 70's which is where he was purchased (I kind of remember the display box). I should note that he also had pointed elf like ears. I cut those off. I always wanted another complete one. A few years back on ebay he showed up and I snagged it. Although hard to see, the one in the pic has the pointed ears.
I love sega cd, one of my favorite video game systems. Though now virtually every sega cd game ever made is up on torrents and a number of very good emulators out there will play them

                          Cjefferys,
I am pretty sure I have the tyrano you are talking about (was he brown in color)? If it is the one I am thinking, he came in two sizes and three different styles over the years (two in the 70's and one in the 80's). I might have the stego though I have a few of them from this time, so I am not sure if it was the one you had.

Maybe for one of my next projects it would be to re-do the photo dvd I started a number of years back. I have a lot of stuff and most of it is scattered throughout my house (I do know where they are). It would be a rather long disc and timely to create, but I think it would be worth it. If I get the ball rolling will take in pics from those who want to contribute to it as well

Yes, I think he was a very dark brown. I remember getting all three of them at a flea market in the late 70's, the seller had a bunch of them in a display box for 25 cents each, I think just those three dinosaurs. If I saw a pic of the other two dinos, I would recognize them instantly.
