I wrote a reminiscence for Dan Greenfield's 13th Dimension about one of my favorite Christmases. Forty years ago, I got the full MOTU starter kit, including Castle Grayskull, and it changed my young life. Check it out!

Nice trip down memory lane. I had gotten He-Man earlier as a gift from my grandmother and then got Man-At-Arms, Teela, BattleCat, Skeletor, and Castle Grayskull from a combination of the same grandmother and Santa that Christmas of 1982.Hugh H. Davis
Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters. -
That's awesome! I had a merry MOTU Christmas that year too.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

I enjoyed your article very much. I started collecting MOTU in '82 when I was 14! I loved the line then and still do. I can't recall if I received Grayskull for my October birthday or for Christmas, but getting playsets for the line was always very exciting. Snake Mountain was fantastic, too.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I also started collecting MOTU in '82. My first figure was He-Man, then Skeletor.
Over the next 12 months or so, I picked up the rest of the first wave.
Never had Castle Grayskull or any of the vehicles, but I did eventually acquire Battle Cat and Zoar.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

Love hearing memories like this. Sounds like the family got the heroes right. Stratos is cool but he's the one you get after you have everyone else. But the villains Mer-man is my personal favorite and probably the 3rd best 1982 figure after Skeletor and He-man.Comment

I think I saw both masters of the universe and Tomy's nifty Tron line for the first time at Kaufmann's toy department in 1982.(and Man-E-Faces,later in 83 or 84, was always my favorite master, because he reminded me of a 70s action figure like Big Jim or Super Joe with his face flip feature. I had intended to make he-man Conan the barbarian by painting his hair black, but I never did.Comment
