It was a live action Hanna Barbara Saturday morning TV show about Neanderthals from 1974. I have absolutely no memory of this or was even aware it existed.
When I first read your post, the show didn't sound familiar. A few days later I had a flashback of a show with cavemen that had a narrator, but the only scene I remembered was them noticing how much better meat tasted after it had been in the ocean for a while. I googled and found the episode:

    The Big Water

"Tane discovers their supply of meat has washed back to shore, so having nothing else to eat, they cook it and discover it is the best tasting meat they have ever had. The foul salt water was too bitter to drink, but apparently, after a day or so in the water, the flavor the wide water imparted to the meat was wonderful."
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

The sea water meat is pretty much the only specific memory I have of the show as well. Maybe an older caveman with a staff...
