1974 Ideal Toys Evel Knievel Catalog

Another glorious look at one of the decade’s greatest successes and possibly one of the biggest hits in toy history. When Ideal toys licensed the likeness of Robert “Evel” Knievel known for his wild (and painful) stunts and combined it with one of the grooviest toy concepts known, it was gold! During these years, the […]

The Stunt Cycle set is the greatest toy ever made. The rest is gravy.

I think so, too. My sister still laughs when she says her favorite toy was MY Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle.

The stunt cycle set was among my favorites. I went through two of them, and there wasn't a lot of money for one let alone two growing up. I still have the set in it's original box, which I pulled out and really looked at for the first time in 45 years. The box contained some of the most beat-to-snot toys I had ever scene. So from a collectors standpoint, there was next to no value. From a memory standpoint, these toys earned every break and tape and glue and paint I lovingly put on the back in the day.

It's a bit odd to me I never felt overly compelled to collect the EK line as an adult. Yet there's still time...

I had the original stunt cycle as a kid, and played with that thing to death. By the end the tires were shreded, the handlebars were gone, and Evel himself I think had bit the dust. But I could still jump that cycle off our 6 ft-high deck and into the back yard and it would keep going.

I got the Team America version later as well. I have the Playing Mantis reissue, and have had lots of fun with it with my kids. When their friends came over, they always wanted to show them the "cool old toy". There's nothing like it today....except the reissues!

Yea the red and blue were swapped on the box image and the van. That must be an early promo photo. Every other image of the box I can find shows the correct release colors.

Without a doubt. Seeing it for the first time as a kid at the iconic Boyle Heights Sears (rockin' since 1927) just blew my mind.

My Dad said "no"; I threw a tantrum and narrowly avoided a well deserved In-Store beating, when the older couple we were with shamed him into buying it for me. Loved that toy, even though most of the landings resembled the one over the Fountains at Caesar's.

When I started collecting as an adult, The King of the Daredevils was up there with Megos.

Currently trying to collect all of Evel's DieCast Line. The Cafe Racer is next!
