    I have a problem.

I used to have all these cool girls toys like My Little Pony (G3 Ponyville), Monster High, and Littlest Pet Shop (2004 version.) But my mom sold them to Goodwill years ago.

A while ago, we were watching Toy Story 2 and it came to the "When She Loved Me" scene, which reminded me of how my mom sold all my old toys. I'm converting my basement into a toy room now, and I really wish I had those toys to fill my shelves. Of course, I told this to my mom and she said "There are other kids who don't have toys. We are not rebuying old toys." She also thinks I'm being selfish.

I can understand how kids without toys need them, and I'd gladly donate baby toys like Fisher-Price and all to Goodwill, along with other toys I feel I outgrew, but I never outgrew, say, MLP or Playmates Strawberry Shortcake. Rebuying old toys is something we collectors all do. James Rolfe and Neil Cicierega never had their parents donate their old toys, and they have huge collections now. I wanna be like them. I know there are other people who rebuy their old toys to feel nostalgic, and that's what my mom did with the Honey Hill Bunch (a '70s toy by Mattel that I grew up playing with.)

Please help prove my mom wrong! I want to be a kid at heart!

Without knowing the entire situation, it's difficult to answer your question.

Whose house are you living in...yours or your mothers? Do you earn your own money?
If it's your house and your money, you do not need your mother's approval, nor her permission to follow your passion. Buy what you want.

Neither of my parents ever approved of my collecting. I couldn't have cared less. I did what made ME happy.

Nostalgia plays a huge role for me, the heart wants what it wants or else does not care.

I collected MOTU very "late"--junior high, high school, early college--and sold them to buy my first computer. I've regretted it my whole life, and recollecting Origins has been such a joy to me.

Megos were my all-time childhood favorites, and I have an awesome collection.

SMDM was another cherished item, but I cannot afford them now. I discovered Fighting Furies as an adult and adored collecting them.

Collect what you like, can afford, and touches you.

Monster High is coming back next year so you will be able to buy them in stores again.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

For me it's not just the toys themselves, but who gave them to you.

One Christmas back in the 70's had tons of Christmas gifts --- The one that stands out and I remember was from my elementary school buddy who got me a model of a Mallard duck

Yes, we schitt-kicker-hicks were into stuff like that

There was a time when I could recall when and from whom I received each of my childhood Megos. I tried to create a list recently but much of it was now blurred in my memory.

Probably, if I correlated World's Greatest Toys, the museum gallery, and PS Christmas catalogs, I could get something close to accurate.

i think most collectors had their childhood toys donated, tossed or sold. it's part of growing up. the magic of rediscovering and hunting down your old beloved toys is part of the fun

This thread just gave me a crazy flash-back.

Back in like 1970-71-ish our school had a toy drive for underprivileged kids.

Remember being in the room where all the donated toys were stored.

Bare in mind this was a 5-6 year olds memory

There was like a 3 foot long plush Flintstones dinosaur with a pod on it's back containing Fred himself working the controls.

I WANTED THAT BAD !!! Like CRAZY bad.

To this day, i've never seen another one...

Chasing nostalgia can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. I've bought a ton of stuff over the years because I sort of wanted it, liked it when I was younger, thought it was a better version of something I once had, etc.

A lot of it I really like, but often I feel buried under how much crap I have that I don't often mess with. And I often wonder how much money I've wasted on it, even if a lot of it is worth more now, it's a real hassle to try and sell this stuff back off.

So if you get back into, I'd say be careful. But what you absolutely really want, but don't get obsessed with the just collecting.

                    I'm kinda the opposite

As long as it makes you feel good --- (NOTE: remembering your current family's responsibilities and happiness)

                    I say go for it.

                    You only live once,

That’s not the opposite. But whatever floats your boat.

My mother's. The government gives me money. I'm only 19.

Thank you guys. I just want more autonomy. My dad approves of my collecting, BTW.

                          You disabled ???

If so maybe direct your collecting passion into something that might benefit others in situation's like your own.

                          Holiday Toy drives etc.

Call your local Fire Department and ask what you can do.

I'm always volunteering at the local free PANCAKE BREAKFEST FOR EVERONE on Sunday's during the holidays
