    Holly Hobby Mania

Being a lad, the allure of Holly Hobbie completely missed me but the number of times I saw her back in the day makes me think that she was something of a rock star in that "girl world" of which I still know little to nothing about.

I will admit to being somewhat nostalgic for dear old Holly, this happened last week when my three year old brought home her first "Bratz" doll. I like to think I'm young but that incident alone hiked up my pants about 3 good inches.

It's Tuesday and here's what cool on DVD today:
You can get the first season of Cannon on DVD today, starring William Conrad as the crimebuster with a glanduar problem. God, I loved spotting the obvious stunt man in some of these shows.
This isn't from the 1970's but seeing as I'm a monster fan I thought I'd mention the rerelease of the classic Karloff Mummy DVD in the legacy collection. I still remember watching this as a kid and being totally captivated.
Last week saw the release of the 1966 Batman Movie on Blue Ray. This was an event when it turned up on the WKBW Sunday movie back in the 70's. I should be running a contest for a copy fairly soon...

My wife almost went with a Holly Hobbie theme for our daughter's room, so her hold on our generation of girls is still there. Instead she gave in to Holly's more glamorous replacement...Strawberry Shortcake!

Bratz...ugh. I hope I can fight that one off for a few more years!

Yeah, Bratz is a street-walking world away from the innocence of Holly Hobby. My sister was big ionto this back int he 70's. She did also have several scented Strawberry Shortcake dolls.

You know, I think I may have just got cooties from this thread!

I wasn't into the rag doll version, but my friend Jackie and I loved the little plastic 6" doll and playsets featuring Holly, Heather, Carrie and Amy. Jackie had Holly w/ wagon, flowers, and watering can. I had Carrie w/ table, stool, kettle, bowl, spoon and cat. Today I have all of the doll & playsets.

My younger sister (who is now 36) had a whole Holly Hobby theme going in her room. Wallpaper, bed sheets and spread, curtains, the whole thing. I don't really remember her playing with Holly Hobby toys but that decor brings back bad memories.

I wish I still had my Star Wars bed sheets....I wonder what they would grade if I sent them in?

I used to love these, too...but my mom and dad were tough and if they said "no" that meant don't bring it up again...EVER!!

                    Hmmmm....

When I was a kid a friend of mine was HUGE into Holly Hobby. She was a girl and into all sorts of weird things like that. I remember I thought Holly was a witch. She wore an old style outfit, lived in a creepy looking house, and was always working in her garden. (A lot of witches kept gardens where they grew stuff for potions and the like.) Funny thing, I have a character in my comic that seems to have developed from that idea....
