1987 Remco Toys Catalog- Karate Kid- AWA Wrestling-

1987 Remco Toys Catalog- By the mid-1980s, Remco had abandoned the name AHI (Azrak-Hamway International) and the business of selling Rack Toys. Their output during this period consisted of licensed items such as the Karate Kid or AWA Wrestling or homegrown toy lines meant to ape the popularity of bigger brands. During the 80s, Remco […]

I always wondered about that AWA female manager. The figure is clearly using a fantasy body, furry boots, gauntlets, etc., but I've never seen any female figures in any of Remco's fantasy lines. Not even prototype pics.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Wow, until right now I always thought those AWA Wrestlers were totally fictitious (more fictitious that "real" wrestling) and had no idea they were based on another wrestling league. I only knew of WWF and WCW, honestly.

Remco bought a TON of ad space on the back covers of DC Comics for their Karate Kid line. I was kind of tempted by those, but was already kind of on my way out of buying toys to play with. I saw a Mr. Miyagi figure at a toy/antique store recently, and was tempted, just to own a Pat Morita action figure. it's amazing to think how relevant this line is right now thanks to Cobra Kai.

I didn't realize that Remco and AHI were the same company! That explains so much...

I could not have told you the name of the line to save my life... but as as a kid, I thought the Remco U.S. Forces were great! They were affordable, they had nice articulation, the accessories were a little more rubbery (which I liked)... and they just had a novelty factor compared to all the usual RAH figures my friends had. They were way better than the Galoob GI Joe ripoffs like Gen Patch and their A-Team figures.

My only memory of the Karate Kid line at the time was in the Sears Wishbook. I thought it looked great and was intrigued by it, but I never saw it in a store. If I had, I might have I have picked up at least some of the toys.

I think the Mini Mashers and Mini Ninjas are cool looking.

I had the AWA Road Warriors and the two dudes in the zebra shirts, I always had the Warriors beat the stuffing out of them, they were my favorite tag team of all time. I don’t think I remember seeing the others though.

I wish I would have bought the Karate Kid base before the Netflix series started, I could have used it for my Shang-Chi.

I had some the fake G.I. Joes just because some of them looked good.

Never was into the wrestling figures but do remember seeing them at K-Mart. I do not remember seeing the female wrestler, I would have gotten her to put in with the knock-Off She-Ra Golden Girl (yeah I had both lines).
