    Toy-Ventures: Stretch Monster by Kenner

Toy-Ventures looks at one of the most iconic toys of the 1970s and certainly my “White Whale” the incredible Stretch Monster! Along the way we talk about it’s history and cultural impact, it’s lack of durability, and my nearly 30-year quest to own this sucker. As a kid I did not own Stretch Armstrong, but I did have Stretch Monster. I remember when he sprung a leak and I had the goo all over my desk. I still have his head around here somewhere.

Great episode as always Brian, but this one is a bit more special to me, as I actually owned both Stretch Armstrong AND Stretch Monster. I even took them to Kindergarten show and tell (where they were a big hit), which means they survived into 1980-81, which is an amazing feat. I don't exactly know what happened to them. I think Armstrong got torn, and my parents were convinced the goo was toxic, so they threw him out. I think Monster lingered around a bit longer, but then I have no idea what became of him.

Where did your new Stretch Monster body come from?

I enjoyed that video. Mark me as one of those kids that twisted his head until I saw the secret ingredients. I've always been one who wanted to peek behind the curtain to see who or what is creating the magic. As a kid, I had no idea it would be something akin to my breakfast menu. Also count me as still looking for that Stretch Monster.

I loved this toy--I used to take it in the tub or lay it (on a towel) on a radiator: Warmed up, it really streeeetched. I had Stretch X-Ray, too--he was awesome.

Wish I still had their heads.
