Sid and Marty Krofft's Freddy The Magic Flute. Since I was a huge fan of the show, I wanted to be like Jack Wild. Having my Mom buy me an Orange shirt, Brown Pants and Brown Cowboy Boots, I literally thought I was Jimmy. back in 1973, My mother informed me we could buy Freddy from a cereal box. I Begged for this thing so me and my mom mailed it off. I still remember the stamp! It was a picture of the White House. (Every time mail came with this stamp I went crazy) So we sent off 50 cents and the form card from the cereal box. Well, I waited which seemed like about 3 months, And instead, a return envelope came stating they've been sold out of this product & that it had been discontinued!! OMG!!! I literally cried for almost a week and every time I was reminded of this. I really fussed my parents over this thing!! my parents bought me a Wooden Flute at Japanese Village in Buena Park CA. So my Dad tried to make it into a Freddy The Flute by carving a little face into it!!! Of course they offered that toy 1971 it was 2 years later that we sent off for this. Years later I wondered what the heck were we doing will two-year-old cereal Box??? Anyways, about 12 years ago, My mother said she would make it up to me for my birthday and Bought me my long overdue Freddy the Flute.

Very nice story--thanks for sharing it. And thanks to your mother for making her son's dream come true, even if years later. I sent off for the cereal box Freddy at the time, and got one, but it was too plain for me. I put gold glitter on his mouth, nose, and eyeline area, and silver glitter where the "diamonds" were on his body. Years later, as an adult, I had a professional prop maker make me a prop-realistic Freddy replica.

Hey Barnabas, I’m not sure why you would say that the Freddie replica pictured was custom made for you by a ‘professional prop maker’ since I’m the one that actually made it (two of them to be exact) several years ago. I eventually decided to part with one of them and I kept the other one for myself. In fact, back when I first made it, I even posted photos of it here on the MM forum as it’s one of the few ‘customs’ I’ve ever done. Not sure where/who you got it from, but in any event I’m glad you like it.Comment
