Vintage Toy Ads: KIds Go Bats over Batman

I haven't done a vintage toy ad probably since I burned out during retro toy fair in February. This ad is sort of relevant to me as I recently made friends with a former Corgi sales rep, we were talking about the Batmobile and he said "Do you know how many of those we sold?" and it kind of dawned on me that every kid on my block (which was the whole wide world in 1975) had one, as if they were issued to us.

Anyway, Batman to Corgi was like a license to print money and I was told that if he put 144 units of bat stuff in a K-Mart, he expected it to be gone by his next visit. I'm nostalgic for these stories because it was my childhood, this fellow seemed more nostalgic for those kinds of sales numbers...

I had all of these except the Penguin car. Oddly enough, I got that particular Batcycle around 1985 or so from a distant relative at Christmas. This cousin of a cousin never bought me anything before or ever again, and when I opened the package, I was dumbfounded. I think at that point Corgi's Batman license was long dried up (at least by a few years). I found myself wondering where they got it, and I wondered if I could find more. My first really collector "buzz". I had just turned 11!

Anyone ever seen the packaging they show in that bottom corner of that ad? I'd love to see it up close. Looks beautiful!

    Thanks Brian!

I had all of those except for that version of the Batcycle...I just started buying these back. I don't remember this particular ad but the one I recall was the Corgi Superman line that appeared inside comic book covers.

One of the traumatizing events of my youth was losing my Corgi Joker Van and Daily Planet truck at the local high-school baseball field. We went to watch my cousin play, and my mom told me not to bring them, but I did anyway. Sure enough, she was right. I lost them. And even though the Daily Planet truck really bothered me with its Clark Kent changing into Superman RIGHT ON THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK I really missed those cars.

I had a friend in grade school take testors to that van, I was horrified and asked him why, he said "Because that's stupid!"

Yeah, I had the same problem with my plastic and highly flammable Spider-man Halloween costume. Had 'Spider-man' boldly emblazoned above my chest!
                    Hated that.
