I need some helping identifying the manufacturers of two different kinds of small, plastic cowboys I had when I was a kid.
These were both the smaller Marx-style scale (like the classic green army men and Fort Apache-style cowboys):
First, I used to have a bunch of these small cowboys (I think we got them at a gift shop down south) in the 1970s. They had interchangeable parts -- the hats, heads and guns all came off so you could swap them, and the torsos and legs could be interchanged. The indians hair even came off. As you can imagine, they didn't lat long... There were cowboys and Indians, and they were very colorful (blue pants with various colored shirts). Years ago I identified the mfg., but I've since forgotten, and Google and ebay haven't helped.
Second:
In the 1980s I had a bunch of Marx-style cowboys and Indians, but they had much more detailed sculpts. The cowboys were originally released in a sort of beige color, while the indians were a red/burnt sienna. There was a western town playset as well, basically a false plastic streetfront with a wood plank sidewalk, saloon, store, etc. I think I got it in a brown mailer box from Penneys or Sears, and you could buy extra bags of the cowboys and indians.
The individual figures were fairly distinctive. One of the Indians was decked out in a full bear skin, doing a dance while wielding tomahawks. One of the cowboys was a tall guy in a ridiculously tall hat, wearing a suit and standing ominously with a rifle at his waist.
I've seen repros of these at drugs stores recently, but the casts are a bit chunkier than the originals.
Any clue who made either of these?
