That is an interesting piece. I have never seen it. Strange it is the one you had before.

Nice R2, some of that diecast Japanese stuff was wicked. Who wouldn't want an R2 that could blow crap up?

Off the top of my head I thought that was a Takara release, but that's a Popy logo on the bottom left of the box (the ST) if I'm not mistaken.

What a small world it is, finding the same one. I love R2D2 too, I love my little talking one.

That's very cool. I love diecast robots like that.

I think it is indeed the same as the Takara one (the toy itself anyway). Actually the ST logo in the lower left is kind of a safety logo that you see on many Japanese toys. The Popy logo is a red oval with "Popi" written on the box in Japanese katakana characters. It looks like the logo on the bottom right of this box may be the toy company's name, it looks like it says something like "Orion" in katakana, I've never heard of it or seen that logo on a toy before. According to the SW collectors archive, it is a later release of the Takara R2 (the earlier release is in a black box and has an actual "Takara" logo on it). Perhaps this release is a reissue (legit or otherwise) from a more obscure company after Takara lost the rights to make Star Wars toys?

I never knew that, thanks! I suppose because it's been mainly Popy Japanese stuff I've checked out over the years I just assumed it was that.

                Still learning daily...

No problem, I think it stands for "Safety Toy", and is like the "CE" logo that legally has to be on toy packaging in many other countries.

                    What goes around comes around.

T.S. you could always sell it if times are tough and buy it back again...

I'd buy it for a Dollar.
