Circus World: The Toy Store in the Mall

I spent the weekend with friends cruising the Chicago toy show (expect photos from that tomorrow) and one of the cooler things I got came from my pal Charlie's basement (which has been subject to a couple of blog posts) and not the show itself.

This clipping from June 4th 1980 (Click here for a bigger view) has a lot of cool toy memories packed in there such as energized Spider-Man, 12' boba Fett, the Fisher Price Ferry Boat and all the two dollar Empire Strickes Back figures you can carry. Sigh, can somebody go back in time and get me a Bossk?
    BTW, thanks again Charlie!

I loved visiting Circus World. I must have spent a few hundred dollars playing Astroids there.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

By the time our mall got a Circus World I was kind of out of the action figure scene but did have the electronic football and baseball games!

Prior to my hometown of Ocala getting a mall in 1980, I used to have to drive 45 miles with my parents to the Oaks mall in Gainesville. I could barely wait until the car stopped rolling before jumping out and running straight to Circus World and later Playland. CW is where I first saw the Darth Vader Tie Fighter I did not even know existed. By the time I managed to drag my mom out of Penneys and back to Circus World some SOB had bought the only one they had! I swear she didn't beleive me that a different Tie Fighter existed until the DV version turned up again a few weeks later on our next visit. The Paddock mall in Ocala only had a Playland and they were never as good.

$28.84 for that football game? I got one four years after that ad was printed at a yard sale for a couple bucks. And I'm with everyone else in wanting to get those Empire figures for $2 a pop. Anyone got their time machine up and running yet?

For you PA people. Wasnt there a Circus World in the King of Prussia Mall?

In Buffalo it was Child World

I worked at Child World in my teen years. Shame they went out of business.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                  Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

That ad brings back all sorts of memories, I remember those Circus World ads well.

And man I didn't even know there was a toy show in Chicago this weekend, I'm so out of the loop lately

Cool ad. I remember going to the Circus World at a mall in Niagara Falls, NY a few times. My friend picked up two Tatooine Skiffs there on clearance for $5 each. He said there were stacks of them (man if I only knew then what I know now! )

That's a great price for the 12" Boba Fett. He normally sold for about $25 here in Canada, if I remember correctly.
