    Sesame Street Swag

Found this neat picture in a catalogue recently, just a cool spread of Child Guidance Sesame Street toys mingled with the "original cast". That unknown dude in the middle? That's some sort of "Build a Muppet" that CG was selling at the time. Expect another Sesame Street Week this May, it's long overdue.

    I love Sesame Street.
The song will be going around my head all day now.

All of their music was so good.
Always thought Big Bird was a girl though.

    Lovely toys.

I still have the Ernie, Bert, Roosevelt Franklin, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch puppets from that pic. One of these days I need to drag out my old puppet collection and take pics.

I vaguely recall Roosevelt Franklin. He's totally gone from the show now it seems. Why I wonder?

If I remember right, some groups felt he was a negative black stereotype on the show, so the folks at the CTW pulled him.

Roosevelt Franklinis a favorite of mine if only for his color scheme. (He compliments
Ernie and Bert quite well visually)

              From muppet wiki:
"Despite significant popularity, he was dropped from the cast following letters
complaining of a negative African-American stereotype, and because his rowdy
elementary school did not set a good example for children."

As far as nostalgia (for me anyway)---nothing quite beats 1970s SESAME STREET
and the stuff that comes with it.

Curse Palasades for not following thru on their SS action figures set.

That's really a shame, I loved Roosevelt Franklin and he's clearly PURPLE!

Besides Roosevelt Franklin, there were a lot of classic characters they eventually pulled the plug on for one reason or another...Don Music, Sam the Robot, Sherlock Hemlock....

                      Yeah?
I thought the more detailed explanation would help George---

Wasn't Don Music the guy who slammmed his head against a piano?
I think they took him out because of that.

I don't think they ever removed Sherlock Hemlock....they had him
as part of their modern day Beanie collection anyway.

Interestingly, they removed Harvey Kneeslapper because his
grating laugh was horribly rough on Frank Oz's voice.

The puppet in the middle was called the "Anything Muppet." I had one as a kid. He was a foam head with a tight felt-like fabric over it. Like Mr. Potato head, all of the pieces were left up to the imagination to put on. Nose, eyes, hair, moustache in a few varieties all with velcro on the end so they would stick to the head. Neat!
                          It's all good!
