    Star Trek 1978

Even though Star Wars was all the rage, the Mego Star Trek figures miraculously re-appeared in the 1978 Sears Catalog. The figures came on cards with blank backers, it's largely believed it was a tactic by Mego to retain the Star Trek license for the upcoming move.

Always nice to see the Space Command Center that we featured earlier. For more Fashion Mockery and 70's toy love visit us at Plaid Stallions.com

Yes, Kirk does look pretty short. He can't even reach the microphone on the console! I have that set and it was meant for 12" GIJoes. There's even a general looking one w/ molded black hair and full beard wearing a silver spacesuit on the box. I think I paid a whopping $12 at Rummage-O-Rama in WI in '91.

Mego figures get kind of lost in it but cool nonetheless....

I think the Space Command Center was out around the same time as Super Joe, at least that's who I remember using that set with when I was a kid.

Wasn't the Space Command Center also repackaged as a Recording Studio playset? (Or maybe the other way around.)

It was a reversible set. The Space Command Center was on one side, and the recording studio was on the other side.

I don't know if it has been mentioned before about this piece, but one of the panels appears to show the Discovery 1 and Pod from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

                            That is really cool.

They probably wouldn't get away with using those images nowadays.
