Why did my family not get these? We were all fanatics from the start, but somehow, we had to wait until they were on the pegs.

I didn't even know what Star Wars was when I saw the figures on the shelves in March of '78. My parents used to unplug the TV all summer, I had no clue.

I got my first 4 around my birthday in February 1978. C3P0, R2D2, Vader and Luke. I missed out of the Early Bird as well. Although I've had several Early Birds kits over the years and the oritinal mail in figures and trays, but it wasn't the same... sigh...

Me too, kinda. I heard about Star Wars from friends who had those wonderful toys.

I guiess my parents felt bad that I was asking for toys from a movie they went to see without me,and eventually sometime in 1978, they took me to seed the film and I got my first two figures Obi-Wan, and then Chewie as two separate "tooth prizes" from the Tooth Fairy.

I had no clue what Star Wars was until I saw boys sticking the trading card stickers to the desks, (much to the annoyance of my 6th grade teacher and school janitor). I had to ask them what those characters were. They looked at me like I was from Mars.

That's funny, Star Wars hit our neighbourhood like a bomb in Summer '77, and by the time school started in the fall it was all the kids were talking about. My friends and I were just dying waiting for Star Wars toys to come out, it was a long wait!

I remember the Marvel comic in stores first, and also the Del Rey novelization, and then the trailers appeared on TV. From the outset, I was hooked and was desperate to see the movie. And then the Topps cards started to turn up in every convenience store. I bought a lot of those.
After the movie hit theatres, the wait for the Kenner toys seemed like an absolute eternity to my 7 year old brain.

Santa brought me the early bird set for Christmas on '77 . And to my surprise when I opened it up there were 2 certificates in the package! So I gave one to my big brother and we each got sets of the figures!! Happy day!!!

I love that the time frame was "between February and June." LOL!!! No rush there at all.
