    Speaking of Rack Toys

I've been stumbling on these things lately. For example these girlie Jeannie Beads and this set of Imperial Silly Dilly Poopatroopers. I like this stuff, especially the poopers! I spent alot of my youth at the local Ben Franklin.

I saw some really old Raggedy Ann rack toys at our town's Raggedy Ann Festival here in historic Cynthiana, KY. Now if you're wondering why we have a Raggedy Ann festival, apparently the FATHER of the creator of Raggedy Ann lived here once. I know, real tenuous connection there. But hey, the festival is neat.

Anyway, the rack toys were real arbitrary things with "Raggedy Ann and Andy" slapped on the package. Like "Raggedy Ann and Andy's Animal Friends" was your typical pack of cheap plastic animals. Still fun to see that stuff though. You just dont' see merchandise like that anymore.

Oh and Ben Franklin (here in Cynthiana) was my toy heaven. Man, I miss that place...

Yep, Ben Franklin, Myatts Pharmacy and a corner store with an old grumpy cigar chewin geezer named Stricklens was all right close to the house. Used to collect bottles in the wagon and cash them in to the old man. He had HUGE racks of candy and junky toys like these and balsa gliders, bat kites, bubble gum cards etc. Hell I was a squirt though, so maybe they weren't that huge, but that's how I remember them.

I picked up a handful of these cool cap guns, how do you sell these without busting them out and putting that orange plug in the end? Exscuse the pictures, I'm just tossing em on the coffee table at my feet and snapping away. Notice the evil Germans stock #, coincidence?

I LOVE rack toys. I have considered collecting them many many times. The cool thing is that there are TONS of vintage 70's character rack toys that are way affordable (many end with NO bids)........

A personal favourite from my collection, I'm trying to catalog rack toys at PS, it's just taking me forever to do so.

I couldn't imagine trying to catalog all the dimestore crap.

The redlines are in our coffee table under glass. In the 90's I was all about hotwheels, basically had every casting except the rear loader and in mint to near mint condition from the years 68-72. This included related lines, everything from Chopcycles/Rrrumblers to Small Shots, Zowies and even Topper Lightnings.

Once I reached a point the thrill kind of died off, the hunt was the real fun of it all. Toy shows died off and ebay took over. I eventually sold it all off, except for the pieces that had real memmories attatched. Sometimes I regret it, but we wouldn't be in the home we are now if I wouldn't have.

You can still buy PoopaTroopers like the ones in that picture, although the packaging is different. Imperial stopped making the "classic" Poopatroopers about 1974. I don't think they put the slingshots with them anymore.
