Kind of neat little bit of obscure D&D merchandising from 1983.

What does TSR do around the height of 80s D&D is evil media hysteria? Release a couple of children's books of course.



But that's not really the odd thing about them. The odd thing about them is, they are actually really good. Gorgeous artwork by Earl Norem and Marie Severin. With well written and respectful to the source material stories by Bob "Goosebumps" Stein and his wife Jane. These are stories and characters I desperately wanted in a Dungeons and Dragons animated series as child. Instead of the cartoon with the kids from an amusement park. These are the characters and stories best known from the LJN Dungeons and Dragons toyline. Strongheart, Warduke, Kelek, Zarak, etc. plus characters planned but never making it to the toyline like Filaree the Druid and Charmay the magic user.

I don't remember these... but I remember the Choose Your Own Adventure-style books, and those were really nicely done as well.

I definitely wish I had seen these way back when. They look full of fun. I agree the "Find Your Fate" books were also very well done.

Another bit of slightly obscure D&D 80s merchandise. A Dungeons and Dragons children's coloring book and Viewmaster reels.



The artwork in the coloring books is actually well done. It stars many of the favorite LJN figures like Warduke, Strongheart and Kelek as well as several characters that didn't make it to the toyline like Charmay, Raven, Fox Fingers and Garn Graygaze. The Viewmaster set is a crossover between the licensed characters used the LJN toyline and the characters from the 1983 D&D animated series.

I recognize characters from the toyline, which is cool. Marvel Books published some really nice Super Hero children books around this time, also illustrated by Marie Severin and Earl Norem!
