Warpo enters the 80s with Don't Cuddle the Krampus
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Tags: None -
It sounds like these guys have all their duck in a row. I dont visit many Kickstarters but the presentation and detail of the product and rewards are stellar. I am kind of surprised it went to Kickstarter as I thought a major toy company would be all over this. -
Not a fan of Lovecraft and I really don't get the recent popularity surge of the Krampus folklore but I do appreciate the obvious care and effort they put into their products. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. Me too. Everybody's got their own interpretation of him. Even the modern European parade costumes go for a more gruesome modern horror aesthetic. I think the Victorian postcards need to be the standard style guide.
And while we're on the subject... The myth is being twisted lately that he's the villainous Anti-Claus... and that wasn't really the case; Krampus traveled with St. Nicholas. They were partners of sorts, not necessarily enemies. There were some victorian postcards that even depicted them riding together in an old car. Now, see... THAT's the Krampus movie I want to see... make it sort of a buddy horror/comedy.Comment

Santa Claus, Sint Nicholas and Krampus are all closely related figures. The latter two (Europeans ones) probably merged into Santa Claus. Krampus is sometimes depicted in reddish clothes and white furs, and Sint Nicholas is an older man with a white beard, looking very much like a bishop. It's a cultural evolution.
We here have Sinterklaas, who visits kids on December 6th. He is (or was) assisted by a black helper ("Black Pete"), but from this year on that's no longer allowed for being racist.
Krampus and Sinterklaas do "punish" kids for being naughty. Black Pete used to carry a big sack, in which the "bad kids" were put. These days, kids aren't bad anymore, they're all "special"...
Black Pete is now on welfare....
