i remember opening new megos off the cards and the smell i loved it ,the star trek and pota figures had a stronger smell than the wgsh for some reason.
Aromas are the strongest reminders of our past. This most likely has to do with ancient people relying it on to find their way back to their homes after hunts, and helping them recognize people, etc. Something like that.
But yes, the smell of vinyl (like your shower curtain liner) definitely takes me back to my childhood. So many things I played with had that strong vinyl smell and I still love it. My wife and daughter think I'm crazy, but when I open a new toy the first thing I do is take a big whiff!
Years ago, I worked for a billboard company, and was in charge of their large vinyl printer. Every time I walked into the room, I was hit with this incredibly strong smell of vinyl. It smelled just like a Ben Cooper Halloween costume. Took me back every time.
Yes, the smell of old comics and newsprint paper. It reminds me of going into the old comic section of the flea market years ago. What a great place it was.
New Vinyl is very nice to.
I would love to find a good slime product that smells like the ones I use to get back in the day. I liked Mattel slime but there use to be other generic versions that were really nice to. So far havent came across one.
I liked the Mattel slime. It may have been different from the version you were use to. Mine was in the mid-80s from Masters of the Universe (Horde Slime). I remember reading that the formula was different from the '70s version.
Making me want to get some Playdoh. I havent thought about that smell in a long time. Does it still smell the same?
^^ Funny thing is, I don't think old comic books smelled like old comic book back when they were new comic books in the 70's. The ink probably still smelled the same, but I think the paper's aging has added that wonderful smell we enjoy today.
I had a weird smell-induced memory. For a while walking around the city streets in the early 90's, a certain smell would hit me and take me back to my first amazing trip abroad (Brussels). I couldn't figure out what smell was taking back a couple years. Then I recognized the unlikely pleasant trigger- car exhaust. I'm not sure when or why I tied the kind-of-gross smell to the wonderful month I spent in Belgium, but it still holds today. I also think of the lesser developed countries I've visited when I walk down a parking garage stairway and the concrete dust fills my nose.
