1970s Back to School Fashion Spectacular

One of the biggest downers of the summer ending is back to school shopping, getting dragged from (Non Toy) store to store, forced to try things on, it's more than your seven year old mind can take.

That's why I've prepared this handy trip down memory lane, once your children see what we had to endure, they'll count their blessings and think twice before complaining.

I liked Back-to-School-shopping. Maybe it's b/c I'm a girl. My mom would take me to Macy's, Gimbel's and Alexanders for clothes, (and I actually got some say in what we got). But for shoes, it was always Buster Brown! There was a shop about a block from my house. I would beg mom for the coolest new Buster Brown, because I had just seen a commercial like this one. (I had the Topsies).

And based on the Jaws craze, I had these shoes called "Chaws".

Back to school shopping usually meant I got a toy for my troubles, so I didn't mind too much. Plus, we actually got to go to "the big city" sometimes, and eat out somewhere different. What a sad life I led...

Yes, I had those Hee-Haw overalls. And a Fonzie leather jacket!

The beagle on that beagle sweater looks suspiciously like early Snoopy drawings. Hmmmm....

I didn't really enjoy back to school clothes shopping until sometime in middle school. I did, however, always get excited about shopping for back to school supplies- lunch box, portfolios and Trapper Keepers!

                    Hey Brian,
Have you ever come across a catalog for Diener? I'd love to see a layout for their erasers.

Why did I bother to even ask before looking-

The one thing I can say about kid's fashion in the 70's is it was definitely for the kids. Kids did not dress like little adults like they do today.
