Did anybody else used to put masking tape on their carpets in place of playsets ?

Back in the day my mom used to buy me 1/4" masking tape and let me use it on the carpet to make everything from building layouts for action figures to roads for my vehicles.

I just wasn't allowed to do it when company was coming

Also, it all had to be up and clean by bedtime (which removing it was kinda fun in itself)

Anybody else allowed used to do this ?

Nope. I had a 6 tier shampoo tower my parents got from a local grocery store that was my Matt Mason moon base. Vertical takes up much less floor space.

Tape and cardboard. The hard part was cutting them to the shapes I wanted.

Stackable plant tables, and assorted Kleenex boxes for furniture.

No offense, but this reminds me pleasantly of Les Nessman.

My Mom probably wouldn't have been too happy if I had put tape all over the carpet.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My mom made furniture from Styrofoam cups and closet rod mounts, and storage lockers for the small bits from old tin Sucrets boxes. I still have them.

My favorite thing to use for playsets and environments indoors was the styrofoam cushion inserts you get out of appliance boxes etc.

When I was six, my family and I moved, and my parents got boxes from the liquor store. My dad took the cardboard inserts out of a couple of the boxes (the cross pieces bottles would slide into) and drew a pair of western towns I could use for my Legends of the West and Legend of the Lone Ranger figures. While I never used the masking tape approach, this sort of inventive move was all over my toy playing back then. I used a Kleenex box to create a cave entrance.

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.
