JJ Armes meet Kojak

Both these guys were based on real people, Kojak was an amalgam of several people who worked on a real life case but Armes was a real life detective with prosthetic hands. I'm not sure about the van being real however, just in my dreams sadly...

The shell of that JJ Armes van is Evel Knievel's Scramble Van. It's a shame they didn't make Evel more like JJ, the wires in those damn bendy bodies broke after about two or three attempts as posing.

I'd definitely collect both of these lines if I had the free space. I have a mild obsession with the Kojak police station set.

That reminds me... Anyone who hasn't seen the silly 1980 TV movie cop/detective show spoof "Murder Can Hurt You!" should make a point of doing so. The scene where Gavin MacLeod as "Nojak" slides down a laundry chute with a watermelon stuck to his head is probably the greatest thing ever filmed. Well, almost.

No, the van toy definitely existed, I think he was just remarking that J.J. probably didn't actually drive around in such a vehicle in real life. Although, he did live in some ridiculous mansion and had pet tigers, if I remember correctly. Check the Ideal catalog link above though, and you'll see that there was an unreleased headquarters playset called the "C.A.M.P.". Too bad it never came out, because it looks awesome.
