    PodStallions Episode 33: Monty Python

This month J& B discuss one of the most prolific comedy influences of our young lifetimes, Monty Python's FLying Circus and it's many incarnations.

We talk about our first encounters growing up, our favourite skits, the term "Pythonesque", delve into the movies (especially Holy Grail) and some of more interesting experiences with Python fans we've known and discuss some of our favourite things that came out of it's influence.

Good timing!! After taking a few months off, I ran through the last few Pod Stallions, and had just exhausted my supply. You guys do a great job with these, by the way. I love 'em!

I was obsessed with Python as a teenager. In fact, around 1988 or so, me and my friend Phil (who was my bandmate in a local metal group at the time) did a joke grindcore "side-project" called Morbid Stepchild, and we recorded a demo where the whole thing was done in character as the nasty French knights from Holy Grail. It was like tirades of ridiculous insults screamed in bad French accents followed by brief bursts of chaotic noise. I remember that we slipped a few copies of it in between the Debbie Gibson and Tiffany tapes at a local record store, hoping that some denim mini-skirt clad, Aqua-Net abusing princess would grab one by mistake. In retrospect, it sounds more Bill & Ted than Python, but still...

Oh man, I'm not even sure if I still have any of those tapes. We were part of the early NYC/NJ area death metal scene, and had a few bands. I was amused to see that the demo from the last band I was in before I got tired of the scene and moved away was posted online. You can see it below. Warning though, this isn't really happy-go-lucky material...

It seems appropriate that a Pod Stallions thread would immediately go off-topic into something totally random (early '90s underground doom metal?!)...
