Thanks to Johnathan for breaking out drought of mall appearance photos with this shot of him and Spider-man in 1979 at the Crosscreek Mall, Greenwood, South Carolina
It's always great to meet your favorite heroes in person as a kid, very cool.
Sure is, but there's always that saying 'don't meet your hero because it will spoil everything'. This was certainly true when I met Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO). I'd heard the horror stories about Daniels which I expected and were met. Mayhew was very grumpy and had a sort of 'give me the money and go away' attitude. I was devastated to say the least.
Dave Prowse (Vader) can also have his 'off days'. Met him a number of times.
That looks like the official Marvel Spidey costume. For some reason it had those small eyes from the late 70s through the early 90s, when they "McFarlaned" them to larger proportions.
Great pic indeed!

I've read and read that, but my personal experience was the opposite. He spent the day at the comic shop I worked at, and I was his gopher. He wasn't overly chummy, but he was polite and never got irritated with all our fannish questions. He told a lot interesting stories I didn't know at the time.

Chris
He's not been the worste I've met by any stretch of the imagination. I met him quite a few times in one day the first time. He went from a 'go away not now' type mood to pretty chatty when I asked him about A Clockwork Orange and Stanley Kubrick. In all fairness to the man though, when I asked him to sign my two posters with a special request, he sort of stopped and took a second or two, looked at me and agreed with the exact words 'OK, but this is the first and last time'. I was chuffed to bits in knowing that I own the only two Prowse autographs like it in the world. After he'd signed the posters I explained that I just wanted something unique. He looked and smiled with a 'I like it' look in his eye.
