    Archie/Mighty Crusaders question

I recently read that the Black Hood was featured in a short-lived radio series and was supposed to be part of Republic serial (with Tom Tyler, Republic's Captain Marvel & Phantom, in the lead, and Bela Lugosi as the villain), but it was only half-finished, and the footage shot was lost. Anyone know if this was true? It felt almost like a "wishful thinking" write up.

Were there any toys of the Mighty Crusaders other than the 1980s line from Remco? They seem natural for Rack Toys, particularly during the superhero craze after Batmania in the 1960s. Were the super-powered Archies (like Pureheart the Powerful) ever featured as any part of Archie merchandise? I've read that Filmation (who produced most of the Archie cartoon incarnations) was going to make a Saturday morning cartoon based on the characters but discovered their contract with the Archies was up, so instead they made their own characters (with clear analogues to the originals) for "Hero High," a component of the Kid Power Hour with Shazam!.

    Thanks.

I know Brian has posted a few Rack Toys Remco made during the brief run of the 80s action figures. I can't think of any other merchandise, other than a pocket novel size reprint of the 60s comics during the initial Batmania. It touted it was written by Jerry Seigel.

I heard Filmation planned to do a cartoon with Archie's Pureheart the Powerful and the other characters in their super hero guises from the comics. Like you said, they found out their option had lapsed. Not sure if they were planning on using the Archie/Red Circle/Mighty Crusader heroes. I know Filmation still had an animation option on SHAZAM! left over from the live-action days. This is why Hanna Barbara had to scrap plans to introduce Captain Marvel and Sivana into Challenge of the Super Friends.

In the times I've read about Hero High, my impression has been it would have matched up with the Super-Archies (Capt. California || Archie; Rex Ruthless || Reggie; Dirty Trixie || Veronica; Glorious Gal || Betty), but it is too bad they never had a Saturday morning show for the Mighty Crusaders (and maybe surprising, given there was the Remco line).
