    Matt Mason

You know, I just missed the golden age of Matt Mason (being born in 65), but I always loved the whole space age feel it created. Tons of vehicles and playsets.
Apart from Mego, this is now my main vintage focus, getting a vehicle here and there when the price is right. Just picked up a Jeff Long (finally!!!).

I was wondering; does anyone know a good site where you get decent pics of the whole line?
I stumbled on some sites that profile themselves as "THE Matt Mason site", and then they go "I have three astronauts and two vehicles..."

I probably really wasn't aware of MMM until the 80s. But I have admired them ever since. Very cool and creative toys with such a unique look and style.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Very cool-looking toys, with concepts & some molds re-used in later lines like Space: 1999 & Big Jim.

        What was Mason's equally-fun aquatic follow-up called, I forget?

Are you talking about the Sea Devils? They're kind of hard to find these days since they're not nearly as popular as the good Major, but I've always liked the line myself.

Yes, Sea Devils! Those look great. (Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your Mason thread, Gorn.)

I had everything except Captain Lazer, because he wasn't to scale. Even then I was a stickler for scale. Still have a few pieces, including the station.

Great toy line. Sorry it was before my time. Like Captain Action. Wonder why IDEAL fizzled out by the time Mego came along.

I really love all the possibilities the line offered. You could make a whole lunar landscape with so many vehicles, and you could use as many duplicate astronauts as you wanted.
The packaging is also very attractive, they added cool photos with backdrops, so as a kid you could really re-enact those.

I was never aware of Sea Devils, but these are really hard to find now. Not that Matt Mason is so easy to find these days. The Space Station and Scorpio are on my "must have" list (which is very short). Most of the figures I picked up were extremely dirty (so affordably priced), but I managed to clean them up nicely.

I didn't find out about MMM until I saw one of the commercials on one of my videos. It looked so cool! I also found a Major Matt Mason Big Little Book at a toy show a long time ago. Is it true they haven't held up well, 'cos of the rubbery bendy bodies?

To be honest, I think they've held up amazingly well after 50 years. I have ten astronauts, and only two "broken limbs" between all of them.
When you get one that needs some TLC, you can get them looking quite nice again, after a gentle clean (don't rub the paint off!) and maybe a "limb re-attachment".
I gave my Jeff Long a new hip, and he's fine now. I got him for $30, so I was more than ready to give him a make-over. He looked like hell, but under all that dirt was a clean layer of bright blue original paint.
For bendable figures of half a century old, I think they're pretty sturdy, and it's amazing that you still find them with the fragile visor intact.

There's a great how to repair MM's broken wires video on You Tube.
