Battlestar Galactica 12" Cylon - retrofit

These can be picked up relatively cheaply but in varying condition. Usually the chest plate, and gun part is missing and the electric no longer works.

My question is, can the wiring be fixed without ruining the figure and does anybody on the forum have experience successfully doing this procedure??

I suppose the alternative is to wait until a complete/functional one is available and simply buy that? Thank you for your input.

I'm guessing that a Matt Mason collector might be able to answer you seeing as it's Captain Laser.

Thanks, that is very interesting. It appears that the Cylon has pretty much the same gun, and body as the 1968 #6330 CAPTAIN LAZER. I did not know that. Did they simply modify the design a little for use in BG line?? The knowledge on this forum is amazing.

Any Matt Mason collectors out there that can help me out???

The colonial warrior and the cylon both use the Captain laser body.

The warrior has the same head, arms, legs and I believe back pack. (Where the batteries go)

The cylons chest light is the same as Captain lasers. I think they both use the same bodies.

Ive heard of more people scavaging newer Battlestar figures for electronic parts to fix Captain Lasers then the other way around.

Ive never done I personally But I did hear a few carefully cut the seams On the body and separated the body carefully to get to the wiring running from the back pack to the arm or chest light. Then reglued the body together.

For the record I had a Captain Laser as a kid. He ended up getting busted So I got to see his inner workings.

If I recall those 12" figures were Mattel's first Battlestar toys released and they went into the stores something like 4 months before the show's US television premiere in September, 1978. At the point they would have needed to come up with the figure design, the show was in pre-production and probably would have given Mattel very little to work with. I imagine they probably would have gotten one or two pictures of a Cylon head and that's it.

The electrical system on these is very simple, and there is few things that can go wrong. Beyond the obvious fault of a broken wire, the wire breaking away from the solder joints in the battery pack, or the plunger switch itself is probably the most common problem. Unfortunately, the only way to fix the switch is the rip the figure open....not an easy task!
