Colorforms and Presto Magix with Brian on Super Mates

Brian stops by again to chat about Presto Magix and Colorforms. Along the way, he, Cindy and I derail the conversation into just about everything geeky, including the Captain Canuck ReMego!

    We had a blast!

I have such fond memories of colorforms, I'm surprised there hasn't been a resurgence of them what with the popularity of retro superheroes or even new ones.

^Believe it or not, Colorforms are still being made today. I never see any at the stores I visit, even with my kids, but they are out there! Quite a few new ones on Amazon.

^When you come home and find your house covered in colored vinyl pieces...be worried.

I have several classic and current Colorform sets. I have some of the pre-school versions, as well a repro original (shapes) set at my school.

Halfway through the show and loving it. I remember prior to Presto Magix, my neighbors who had come over from the UK gave me a set of Star Wars Letraset transfers. I thought they were the coolest thing in the world. Then I got the Batman and Superman "Rub-Ons", which also predated Presto Magix.

Chris, that graphic you posted... do you own all of those Colorforms? Very cool! All that survived from mine was a lone John Romita Hulk.

^Yep, those are mine. They survived because I put all my Colorform pieces in my sister's old Snoopy and Woodstock lunchbox. It somehow made it through the years. At some point I applied a Topps Star Wars sticker of Grand Moff Tarkin on it. So Peter Cushing guarded my Colorforms all of those years.

                  Thanks for listening!

I haven't listened yet, but I will. The picture of the mono-colored Batman set really takes me back. I played with that set obsessively as a child.

^You get name-dropped by Brian, in conjunction with your work on Captain Canuck. The whole team does. I could have talked about that for an hour and a half!

I've only just noticed that you guys chat about Canuck for the first ten minutes! Thanks so much to Chris and Cindy. Listened to the podcast on my road trip out to Kitchener today.

the title of the documentary Brian discusses is called Lost Heroes, and I'm extremely proud of many of my friends who were a part of this project.

^No problem, Sam. I added the documentary link to our show notes on the site.

I loved both Colorforms and Presto Magic growing up. The backgrounds to the Presto Magic were the best for action figure playsets.

And yes you can still buy new Colorforms on Amazon
