    The Superhero Sales Force

Another cool sales piece from LCA (licensing Corporation of America) extolling the virtues of DC comics superheroes. LCA was the engine that drove the superhero merchandise explosion of the 1970s, so it's safe to say I'm a big fan. Click on any of the images to see them larger. (Thanks to Corey for the scans)

I can't resist blowing up that mall appearance shot and the Superman boutique picture (which was previously seen here)

A blow reveals that Batman and Robin aren't played by just anybody but by Batman and Robin. Nice gig considering it's nearly a decade since the series was cancelled.

This is the Superman boutique at Macy's, we've previously featured it in the booklet below:

More LCA and DC comics goodness here.

I often wonder how good those appearance fees were back in the 70's. I'm confident they weren't remotely as lucrative as what the industry is today. I'm sure it was a blue collar type of living that got them by but didn't really enrich their savings.

Can you imagine seeing West and Ward, in costume back then? They were still in good shape. Heck, West still is for an 86 year old!

This ad is so full of the things that made life worth living as a pre-schooler I can't even put it into words. We even get some Super Jrs. action in there! I want that Robin satchel!!!

YES! I am eyeing that Robin satchel too! It would make a groovy laptop bag. Imagine pulling your Robin satchel out at an important business meeting.

It was very rare to see Robin merchandise with no Batman. The Caped Crusader is nowhere in sight. I love it.

Lunchboxes, a book bag, a telephone, a clock! Too cool!

I would have collapsed in a fit of Superman goodness overload as a kid if I would have walked into that.

I keep coming back to these pics. I still have the Batman radio, Batman watch, and Super Friends lunchbox I had as a kid. That Batman belt looks familiar too. I may have had it at some point.

^I think it's one of those musical figurines of DC characters that were out at the time. I still have my Superman, although he's been broken and reglued many times. He played "Jesus Christ, Superstar"!

Edited to add: Looking at it again, this looks like the non-musical version. No music box base to wind up. But they did make a musical version as well.

In 1977, Adam West appeared for four days as Batman in Evansville, Indiana's Hadi Shrine Circus. I remember he said that Robin was off fighting Catwoman. Also (and I wish I still had it), every circus program had a hand signed 8x10 black and white picture of Adam West as Batman. He put on a great show. Of course, he was the main attraction.

Here is a picture of him somewhere backstage in Evansville at the Circus in 1977

They came two ways - either a music box or a night light. I have the complete set except for Batman & Robin.

^ The Batman & Robin is pretty darn neat.

I had a friend who had the Batman/Batman & Robin belt pictured, when we were kids. I always thought it was really cool.
