    The Lost Playground

PS Reader Murilo sent in these pictures from Ana Lidia Park in Brazil, where 70s playgrounds still stand and in great condition. Let's explore:

This is a pretty deluxe rocket set if I do say so myself.

This is Cinderella's pumpkin carriage (Model 155-422) from this catalog.

And this looks like the old Woman's shoe from the same catalog.

This is like walking back in time, if I ever get to Brazil, I'm heading here before the beach. Thanks Murilo!

Totally cool! When I was a kid our playground had the high tower with fireman pole and sliding board. I loved that pole, great for "changing" into Batman!
My daughter's current playground is a wonderful safe and elaborate affair made out of nontoxic pressure treated wood, complete with castle towers and bridges.
But we had a time on our sun burning slides and chain monkey bars didn't we?

There was a park near my first teaching job in San Clemente, CA and it was called Rocket Park, b/c of the big structure (similar to above pic, but w/ a wavy slide). My class loved taking field trips there!

Those are beyond cool. I have a special place in my heart for these kind of playground sets. Great pics!

The rocket slide in my local park here in south Chicago is one of my fondest childhood memories.

Last summer I spotted a small old rocket slide from the highway while driving through Effingham, IL. First time I'd seen one in so many years, almost brought at tear to my eye!

Awesome pics! There used to be a playground near us that had rocketship shaped monkeybars (but sideways, as if in flight) and I loved that thing.

The playground at our local park had a full sized tank and fire engine side by side. A little further off was the rocket similar to the one in those pics; the kids that were brave enough to climb to the tallest cabin got to commandeer the steering wheel.
