Toy Hunting in Tokyo

It's been a little over a decade since I was last in Tokyo and boy is it going to be hard for me to stay on target with Superheroes and Gatchaman.

Godzilla, Shogun Warrior style robots and Microman alone are enough to break my resolve. Pile on Studio Ghibli characters, all manner of Kaiju, Osamu Tezuka stuff.

even cool oddball stuff like the Takashi Miike Ichi action figures Chris brought back last year was pretty wild!

Wow, a trip down a year old memory lane for me! I'm sure we can take some even better pics this year sir. Maybe even risk some shots inside the famously anti-photography Mandarake stores? We can most likely squeeze in Toy Sapiens, where is it again?

Harajuku... that's where there are potentially record stores as well I think?

Harajuku? Cool, that's between Shibuya and Shinjuku on the Yamanote train line (the big circle) so we can definitely hit there with no extra effort. I'm hoping there will be some record stores (looking for some Japanese KISS releases) and little hole in the wall toy stores there too.

This guy managed to film inside the Mandrake in Shibuya! looks like there are a couple of other shops near there as well.

Cool, seeing these places again is getting me stoked. This trip I'm hoping to find the Mandarake in Osaka, I've never been to that one before. And of course we will hit the ones in Shibuya, Akihabara and Nakano. Too bad the one in Shinjuku closed down, I was only there once but it was a nice one too.

I am going to really have to focus on finding Gatchaman pieces to fill holes in my collection and not get distracted by all the other goodness.

By coinsidence I was there a day before you Ed, and I can't believe that I totally missed those Jaws items! I did pick up a couple of those Spidey sofubis though. Universal Studios Japan is pretty cool, it's like the US ones ten or fifteen years ago (I think it's where the Universal Studios Hollywood/Florida attractions go to die): Jaws, Backdraft, Waterworld (!), etc. And they are finally getting Harry Potter this summer.
